PLACE Field School<\/p><\/div>\n

I\u2019ve always been\u00a0interested in\u00a0archaeology and\u00a0anthropology \u2013 I grew\u00a0up in Somerset and\u00a0Wiltshire and there are\u00a0so many artefacts all\u00a0around us.
\nI can\u2019t remember specifically what\u00a0I found that got me so interested,\u00a0but I became fascinated with\u00a0archaeology and then later by\u00a0human remains. I do know I\u2019ve been\u00a0lucky to live in places where there\u2019s\u00a0always something to find – Avebury,\u00a0Stonehenge, Roman Villas, fossils on\u00a0the beach, bits of pottery and arrow\u00a0flints all around us.
\nWhen it came to choosing a\u00a0university, I opted for BU because\u00a0the course involves a six-week\u00a0field school called the Place and Past Field School<\/a>. I\u2019d had some limited\u00a0experience on archaeological sites, but the chance to be involved\u00a0in a full-scale project and being\u00a0given responsibility for the work\u00a0taking place was something that\u00a0really excited me. I was even more excited when we\u00a0were told that the 2018 dig would be\u00a0in Poole Harbour (sand and silt) and\u00a0not Winterbourne Kingston (chalk). Not only is Poole Harbour easier\u00a0to dig in, you don\u2019t get reflected\u00a0sunburn from the chalk! It also\u00a0helps that BU\u2019s annual six-week field\u00a0school has uncovered some really\u00a0significant finds in recent years.\u00a0The staff on the course are less like\u00a0teachers and more like mentors; you\u00a0know them all by their first name and\u00a0work alongside them on field trips.\u00a0There are lots of opportunities to\u00a0be involved and learn more – at the\u00a0Tuesday evening seminars you hear\u00a0eminent people like Professor Tim\u00a0Darvill MBE asking questions, so you\u00a0learn all the time. If your thinking about studying this course and your on the fence at all, I’d say go for it!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
