When I initially applied to Bournemouth University, I hadn’t really looked\u00a0 into the financial side of things too much. I know Universities have scholarships but many of them you apply for and I hadn’t looked or thought to do that. When I confirmed my place, I got sent an email about the\u00a0Undergraduate\u00a0Academic Excellence Scholarship.\u00a0<\/a>Thanks to my performance at college, I had been successful for the\u00a0\u00a31,000 worth of non-repayable\u00a0scholarship in my first year!!! I’ve never been so excited opening an email. Instead of\u00a0discounting the tuition, BU pays the money\u00a0directly to the students, which I think is very\u00a0effective and useful. The payment system is\u00a0pretty straight-forward.\u00a0You get a prepaid VISA card, which is topped up in\u00a0nine equal installments, and you can use it in shops\u00a0and \"\"<\/a>online – but not to withdraw as cash. You can\u00a0check the balance of the card online to keep on top\u00a0of your finances too. The card can be used for specific purposes, such as food, textbooks, stationery or online shopping,\u00a0which makes it is a good budgeting tool when used\u00a0cleverly. It\u2019s like pocket money that you can use to
\ntreat yourself and support your studies, or a good\u00a0financial aid if you are struggling with money in\u00a0general. The university doesn\u2019t dictate what items\u00a0you can or cannot buy, but I am pretty sure you will\u00a0find yourself using it for course-related materials in\u00a0many instances.
\nTo claim the scholarship, you need to meet the\u00a0academic achievement standards, which you’ll\u00a0find on the website.<\/a> It is not income-assessed,\u00a0and it gets processed automatically based on your\u00a0grades \u2013 very easy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
