I can hardly believe the time has gone so fast, and I think the fact that I’m enjoying life here so much has a lot to do with it. I feel so fortunate to have chosen a course and a university that gives me all the resources I need to take the next step forward in my career journey. I know it will all be coming to an end soon, so I’m determined to make the most of it.

One of the main things I love about BU is how close-knit it is. There is a real sense of community on campus. I’ve found the staff to be really helpful, and there are plenty of support services you can access if you’re having any problems. This genuinely makes all the difference. I had a similar experience with my undergrad university, which also had a great community spirit, so it’s been really nice to continue my studies in the same kind of environment.

I’ve mentioned before how easy it has been to make friends here. I attribute this partly to only having a few people on my course, but it’s also been amazing to meet people from so many different parts of the world. Bournemouth is one of the most international universities you will come across, and while studying here you’re bound to make friends from all sorts of countries. It’s an opportunity that doesn’t come along very often, and I’ve really enjoyed learning about people’s different cultures and experiences.

As a radio student, the facilities I have access to at BU are incredible. We have five studios which are equipped with industry standard technology, a range of microphones and recording kit and professional editing software. The kit and studios are very easy to book, so we have lots of time to practise our skills and work on projects. I am so grateful to be able to use all of this on a daily basis and know that I’m being very well prepared for the industry. This is another thing I love about being at BU.

Finally, the location of the university is another advantage. Bournemouth is a beautiful seaside town with lots going on, but at the same time it’s a fairly relaxed place to study. It’s also got fantastic transport links to London and is only a couple of hours away, which I find brilliant as it’s nice to be able to take a trip there every now and then.

I feel a great sense of belonging here at BU and couldn’t have chosen a better place to do my postgraduate degree.

By Sarah Stacey

As I write this, I’ve been at BU for almost eight months and am about to get started on my Master’s project.
