Si\u00e2n Sanger-Jones<\/p><\/div>\n

For Sian Sanger-Jones<\/strong>, sustainability has never been just a career choice. It has been a passion driven by a desire to create meaningful change for both people and the environment. After completing her BSc (Hons) Environmental Science<\/strong><\/a> at Bournemouth University between 2011 and 2014, Sian developed a strong appreciation for the University’s supportive and engaging learning environment. Inspired by passionate lecturers and a welcoming community, she later returned to study the MSc Green Economy<\/strong><\/a>, graduating in 2017.<\/p>\n

Before beginning her Master’s degree, Sian took time to gain valuable life and work experience, spending a year in employment and another travelling the world. This break allowed her to reflect on how she could apply her environmental knowledge in real-world settings. The flexibility of BU’s distance-learning Master’s programme meant she could volunteer as a domestic energy advisor in her local community, helping residents while developing a deeper understanding of environmental social justice.<\/p>\n

Sian began her professional journey with renewable electricity provider Good Energy<\/strong>, where she gained valuable insight into the UK’s renewable energy market. Her Master’s dissertation, which explored renewable electricity tariffs for domestic consumers, proved to be a pivotal moment in her career. The expertise she developed led directly to a role as a Sustainability Coordinator, supporting major commercial property clients to better understand and reduce their environmental impact.<\/p>\n

This experience sparked a growing interest in the built environment and the broad opportunities sustainability presents within it. Today, Sian is Associate Director – Property Management ESG at CBRE<\/a><\/strong>, where she works with some of the UK’s largest property portfolios to improve environmental performance, enhance biodiversity, support local communities and reduce carbon emissions.<\/p>\n

What Sian finds most rewarding is seeing tangible results from her work, whether that is cutting emissions through building upgrades, creating biodiverse green spaces, or helping people understand the positive impact of sustainability initiatives.<\/p>\n

Her advice to current and prospective students is simple: learn as much as you can about sustainability and the built environment, then get involved<\/em>. Volunteering during her Master’s gave her invaluable real-world experience and helped shape the successful career she enjoys today. By combining academic knowledge with practical action, students can position themselves to make a genuine difference in the transition to a greener future.<\/p>\n
