Drew Hyndman – Volunteer of the Year Award 2025<\/p><\/div>\n

Drew Hyndman, who graduated from BU with a BA (Hons) in Multimedia Journalism<\/a> in 2019, is now Senior Content Producer at BBC Radio Solent.<\/a> He received the Volunteer of the Year award from BU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alison Honour, as part of the graduation celebrations in 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n

Drew\u2019s award\u00a0recognises\u00a0his outstanding commitment to supporting BU students over the past year. He regularly returns to campus to take part in the annual\u00a0Careers in Journalism\u00a0event, has mentored final-year students, delivered online talks on\u00a0neurodiversity\u00a0and has championed the importance of disability inclusion in the media industry. He has also collaborated closely with BU on projects including hosting BBC radio podcasts that feature student contributions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Drew<\/strong> said: \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0an\u00a0honour\u00a0to be given this award. When I was a student, I really valued the time given up by professionals to inspire and guide us as we thought about careers.\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0been more than happy to step into that role and give back. Thank\u00a0you BU\u00a0for the recognition.<\/em>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Each year, one graduate is selected for the Alumni Volunteer of the Year A<\/span>ward in recognition of the positive impact their volunteering has had on BU students, particularly through activities that enrich the\u00a0student\u00a0experience and support employability.<\/span><\/p>\n

Staff in the Faculty of Media, Science & Technology endorsed Drews nomination. They highlighted his enthusiasm, generosity with his time and the meaningful difference his guidance has made to students preparing for their careers.
