She was drawn to the idea of experiencing somewhere entirely new, far removed from familiar surroundings, and the university’s coastal location offered exactly that sense of change. BU’s vibrant student media culture, particularly Nerve Media, was also a major influence on her decision. Alongside this, Dina was keen to develop her interests in both writing and publishing, and she was especially attracted to the course’s potential to explore creative approaches beyond traditional academic study.

During her time at BU, Dina found the strongest highlights in the sense of community and the wide range of opportunities available outside the classroom. Becoming involved with Nerve Media proved transformative. Through Nerve Radio, she pushed herself beyond her comfort zone, building confidence in a new environment. Her involvement in Nerve TV allowed her to explore different creative outlets, including acting, as well as writing and directing her own short film—something she had always aspired to do. These experiences, alongside meeting new people and developing independence, were central to her university journey.

Since graduating in 2024, Dina has followed a creative and multifaceted career path. She has achieved significant milestones as an author, publishing both a novel and a novella. At the same time, she founded her own company, REELM Studios, where she continues to explore visual storytelling and creative media. More recently, she has expanded her professional experience into journalism, working with the Cyprus Mail. This role has allowed her to engage with real-world storytelling, covering interviews and feature articles, and adding a new dimension to her writing career. Her journey reflects a blend of entrepreneurship, media production and literary work, rather than a single, traditional career route.

What Dina finds most rewarding in her work is the opportunity to be part of a team and contribute to stories that resonate with readers. She values writing that feels authentic and meaningful, particularly when focusing on real people and experiences.

For current and prospective students, Dina’s advice is clear: get involved. Whether through student media, societies or creative projects, engaging with the wider university community can significantly enrich the student experience. It not only helps build connections but also opens doors to opportunities that extend far beyond academic study.

Dina Husseini chose to study MA Creative Writing and Publishing at Bournemouth University (BU) for a combination of both personal and academic reasons.
