Tom Mead<\/p><\/div>\n

Tom Mead is a Bournemouth University graduate whose creative career reflects both the unpredictability and the rewards of pursuing a distinctive artistic voice. Graduating in 2007 with a BA (Hons) in Animation Production<\/a>, Tom was drawn to BU for its unique commitment at the time to hand-drawn animation. His early experiences in the department proved transformative, offering not only technical training but a sense of belonging among like-minded creatives. The freedom to explore the studios at all hours and the immersive atmosphere of the department shaped a lasting creative foundation.<\/p>\n

Since graduating, Tom\u2019s career has taken a dynamic and unconventional path. He has collaborated with renowned organisations including Aardman, the BBC, Fireshine Games, and Workman Publishing, yet he identifies his most meaningful successes as those driven independently. Early in his career, Tom found his artistic style did not fit neatly within the traditional animation industry, prompting him to pivot toward the global art scene. This led to exhibitions worldwide, residencies across Europe and beyond, and large-scale mural work, including projects in Cape Town and at Bristol\u2019s Upfest.<\/div>\n

A defining turning point came with his move into the games industry. As co-founder of Spiral Circus<\/a>, Tom played a key role in developing Silt<\/em>, an atmospheric underwater game that has achieved widespread success, surpassing two million mobile downloads and expanding across consoles. The project\u2019s recognition, including being named an Apple Design Award finalist, has brought international attention to his distinctive visual style and opened new creative opportunities. Throughout his journey, collaboration and creativity have remained central motivations. Tom values the way creative partnerships can elevate ideas beyond individual imagination, while the act of drawing itself remains a vital personal outlet. Whether working digitally or returning to traditional sketching, he describes art as both a professional pursuit and a form of emotional reset.<\/p>\n

Tom encourages aspiring creatives to remain persistent and authentic, emphasising the importance of networking, visibility, and passion. He highlights practical strategies such as tailoring artistic outputs to specific audiences and leveraging opportunities through mailing lists and industry connections. Equally, he underscores the importance of balance, recognising that rest and reflection are essential to sustaining long-term creativity.
