This year\u2019s recipient Lorraine, a first-year BU student passionate about protecting digital frontiers, has shared how the scholarship is helping her shape her future in the industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/student-blog\/files\/2025\/05\/ESET-studentship-close-resized.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-27615\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/student-blog\/files\/2025\/05\/ESET-studentship-close-resized-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"ESET studentship recipient Lorraine\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/student-blog\/files\/2025\/05\/ESET-studentship-close-resized-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/student-blog\/files\/2025\/05\/ESET-studentship-close-resized-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/student-blog\/files\/2025\/05\/ESET-studentship-close-resized-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/student-blog\/files\/2025\/05\/ESET-studentship-close-resized.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Having originally studied computer science, Lorraine found her calling in cyber security, a field she described as \u201cmore focused and purpose driven.\u201d Inspired by the opportunity to make a difference and explore the societal impact of tech, she now aspires to work for an international cyber security firm or even join the police force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCyber security stood out because it&#8217;s not just about tech, it\u2019s about understanding businesses, protecting people and being part of something evolving every day,\u201d she said. \u201cI want to travel and work globally and cyber security gives me that chance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ESET Women in Cyber Security Studentship has helped Lorraine access critical equipment including a new laptop and monitor, textbooks and additional online certification courses, investments that are already enhancing her CV as she prepares for her second year placement. \u201cIt\u2019s been a real boost, not just financially, but in confidence too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s also embraced leadership as a student representative, advocating for her classmates and participating in regular student-staff forums. \u201cIt\u2019s helped me grow professionally. I\u2019m developing skills that go beyond the classroom; networking, communication, leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of ESET\u2019s broader initiative to diversify the tech sector, she\u2019s already taken part in networking events and is eager to support future scholarship recipients as a mentor. \u201cIt\u2019s so important to see women in this field. It makes a real difference.
