{"id":2478,"date":"2015-05-08T14:51:15","date_gmt":"2015-05-08T14:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/undergraduate\/?p=2478"},"modified":"2020-10-26T16:36:11","modified_gmt":"2020-10-26T15:36:11","slug":"afc-bournemouth-partnership-benefits-bus-sports-teams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/student-blog\/2015\/05\/08\/afc-bournemouth-partnership-benefits-bus-sports-teams\/","title":{"rendered":"AFC Bournemouth partnership benefits BU\u2019s sports teams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bournemouth University students benefit from the university\u2019s partnership with local football club in a number of ways, from work placement opportunities to community projects.<\/p>\n<p>But another big benefit of the partnership is the high-level coaching that BU\u2019s men\u2019s and women\u2019s football teams receive from AFC Bournemouth coaches.<\/p>\n<div class=\"break\">\n<div class=\"asset-wrapper asset aid-10526 asset-image\">\n<div class=\"embedded-image image-left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/news\/2015-05-08\/afc-bournemouth-partnership-benefits-bu-s-sports-teams\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft\" title=\"AFCB goldsands shoot\" src=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/bournemouth_wysiwyg\/public\/assets\/images\/DSC_3842.JPG?itok=SzpDHVvZ\" alt=\"AFCB goldsands shoot\" width=\"482\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Steve Cuss, Head of AFC Bournemouth\u2019s Community Sports Trust, coaches and manages BU\u2019s varsity teams, bringing with him a wealth of experience as he also coaches local club Wimborne Town FC.<\/p>\n<p>AFC Bournemouth has been coaching the men\u2019s side for two years, and the women\u2019s team for one year. This season the Men\u2019s 1st and 3rd teams won their respective leagues, with the 1st team reaching the BUCS National Trophy Final. The women\u2019s team won their league, gaining promoting, and also made the Conference Cup Final.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Cuss said, \u201cIt has been a privilege to work with BU\u2019s football teams this year, and I\u2019m really proud of their successes. We are all looking forward to next season now, where I hope we will continue to bring success!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been great to work with Bournemouth University as a part of the partnership, not just on the footballing side but also with the community work we are doing, and I\u2019m really looking forward to continuing this in the future too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is not only the university\u2019s football teams that have achieved success this season, with AFC Bournemouth also celebrating their promotion to the Premier League as champions of the Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Barry Squires, Sports Operations Manager at sportBU, said, \u201cWith the support of AFC Bournemouth\u2019s excellent coaching staff, Bournemouth University football club has flourished with numerous cup and league successes. In the past couple of years they have established themselves in the top tiers of British University football and look forward to continuing this run of success into the future, as well as joining forces on a number of community projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur congratulations also go to AFC Bournemouth on their amazing success this season; we\u2019re really looking forward to seeing them in the Premier League. It is amazing to see what this success has done to the town, with the number of people [60,000] out to show their support at the parade last weekend.
