Starting university for the first time can be daunting, particularly the idea of making new friends and socialising but it’s not all scary! Here are a few ways you can make new friends at university:<\/p>\n

  1. Set up a WhatsApp\/Facebook Group\"Social<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Have a hunt around to see if there\u2019s any already going the summer before you join. For me, this was a lovely way to meet up with a few of the students on my course the summer before we started.<\/p>\n

    1. Join your union\u2019s clubs and societies!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\"\"<\/a>\n

      There\u2019s a club or society for literally anyone, for any interest and ability. Whether you love video games, want to learn a new language, are an international student looking to meet likewise students, enjoy a night out, are a Harry Potter fan, or into your sports, there is something for everyone. If you really can\u2019t find something, then you can start your own!<\/p>\n

      1. Invite your flat\/hall buddies for a get-together!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        If you\u2019re heading into halls, why not set up a get-together in a communal spot? Choose a movie night, a chat over a coffee or games and a night out, it\u2019s a great way to ask your hall buddies to join you and get to know one another.<\/p>\n

        1. Get involved with Freshers events!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          You\u2019ll end up with tons of free t-shirts, tote bags and pens, info about clubs and societies and hopefully meet a few new students too\"Freshers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

          1. Get a part-time job<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            \"MyCareerHub\"<\/a>Whilst earning a bit of extra pocket money for yourself, you may meet others. It\u2019s also a great way to meet locals and find out more about Bournemouth town and the local area.<\/p>\n

            1. Or volunteer<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              Maybe you can spare a few hours during your week to meet like-minded people and dedicate some time to a good cause.<\/p>\n

              1. Take on new challenges and say yes!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                Lastly, consider stepping outside your comfort zone, whether it be approaching someone else at lunch, reaching out to a new group or making eye contact with those in your new lectures.
