{"id":1470,"date":"2014-07-15T12:24:12","date_gmt":"2014-07-15T12:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/undergraduate\/?p=1470"},"modified":"2020-10-26T16:37:19","modified_gmt":"2020-10-26T15:37:19","slug":"clearing-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/student-blog\/2014\/07\/15\/clearing-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Clearing 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s that time of year when many of you are making the all-important decisions about your future.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking to go to university but didn\u2019t quite meet the 30 June UCAS deadline, or you didn\u2019t receive any offers from your initial university choices, or perhaps your exam results weren\u2019t as you\u2019d expected, then <strong>Clearing<\/strong> might just help you to secure your place in higher education.<\/p>\n<p>Clearing gives you the opportunity to apply to universities and colleges that still have places available on their courses. Be mindful though, it\u2019s not a free-for-all service, there are still entry requirements that you will need to meet.<\/p>\n<p>So here\u2019s how it works: the Clearing service is open from mid July-September so for those of you who didn\u2019t receive any offers and already have your exam results, you can begin your search now! If you\u2019re due to receive your exam results in August or early September, the option to apply through Clearing will still be available to you and in the meantime you can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bournemouthuniversity.wufoo.eu\/forms\/clearing-adjustment-register-your-interest\/\">register your interest<\/a>\u00a0with BU to keep up to date with all the latest Clearing news.<\/p>\n<p>Going to university is a big step, so you shouldn\u2019t feel pressured into making any quick decisions, take the time to research your options and make the choice that\u2019s right for YOU. Follow these simple steps and remember to keep calm, we\u2019re here to help.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Find courses in Clearing on individual university websites, you can find our courses\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bournemouth.ac.uk\/futurestudents\/undergraduate\/clearing\/course-list.html\">here<\/a>, on the UCAS website or in the national press<\/li>\n<li>If you are eligible for Clearing an \u2018Add a Clearing Choice\u2019 button will appear on your Track \u2018choices\u2019 page on UCAS, as well as your personal Clearing number. Jot the number down along with your UCAS Track number<\/li>\n<li>Make a list of all of your qualifications and their UCAS tariff points value. If you\u2019re unsure you can use the\u00a0<a title=\"Tariff Comparison Chart\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bournemouth.ac.uk\/futurestudents\/undergraduate\/clearing\/downloads\/UCAS-Tariff.pdf\">BU tariff table<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Make a short list of the courses you\u2019re interested in, the university they are offered at and the telephone number you need to call<\/li>\n<li>Pick up the phone and dial; universities want to speak to you personally. It\u2019s not just a chance for us to find out about you, it\u2019s the perfect opportunity for you to find out if it\u2019s somewhere you want to spend the next few years of your life, so ask away and remember to make notes!<\/li>\n<li>Once you\u2019ve decided which university and course you want to study and been given a verbal offer over the phone, click the \u2018Add a Clearing Choice\u2019 button on your UCAS Track \u2018choices\u2019 page and enter the institution code and course details<\/li>\n<li>UCAS will let the university or college know that you have entered their details on Track. If the university or college accepts you, it will be displayed in the \u2018choices\u2019 section of Track and you\u2019ll receive a letter to confirm this. Don\u2019t panic if it doesn\u2019t appear straight away it\u2019s a super busy time for everyone<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We have designed a Clearing tool kit to help guide you through this process and this can be downloaded from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bournemouth.ac.uk\/futurestudents\/undergraduate\/clearing\/downloads\/bu-clearing-toolkit.pdf?utm_source=apply-yourself&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=clearing2013\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top tip:\u00a0<\/strong>Make sure you know what qualifications you have and a list of what you got for your GCSEs ready before calling universities, it\u2019s amazing what you can forget in two short years.<\/p>\n<p>So what\u2019s left I hear you asking? Well, follow the university&#8217;s next steps and see if there\u2019s a chance to visit the campus before September.
