{"id":14586,"date":"2017-04-17T15:00:14","date_gmt":"2017-04-17T15:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/?p=1755"},"modified":"2021-11-12T12:32:16","modified_gmt":"2021-11-12T11:32:16","slug":"location-location-location-2-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/student-blog\/2017\/04\/17\/location-location-location-2-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Location, location, location"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to Bournemouth, and what a location it is!\u00a0 If you\u2019re new to the area, I hope you\u2019ve started to enjoy the beautiful beaches, parks and everything else Bournemouth has to offer. \u00a0If you haven&#8217;t visited us yet, then there&#8217;s lots to look forward to! While Bournemouth is a great place to be, we also have a wealth of other places at our fingertips that make for great day trips or weekends away.\u00a0 This is my little guide to a few of my favourite spots throughout Bournemouth, Dorset and beyond.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bournemouth<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bournemouth beach &#8211; the classic hot spot!\u00a0 If you\u2019re not a fan of all the crowds in the summer, it\u2019s a great place for a stroll during the colder months.<\/p>\n<p>Slade\u2019s Farm Open Space &#8211; admittedly I\u2019m biased towards this place because it\u2019s the home of the Bournemouth Cycling Centre (find out about free track cycling for students here).\u00a0 That said, this place has got something for everyone: a large dog walking area, woodland, walking paths, a skate park and a caf\u00e9.\u00a0 And all just a stone\u2019s throw away from Talbot Campus!\u00a0 I was lucky enough to catch this glorious sunset there on a recent visit.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Slades.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1764\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Slades.jpg\" alt=\"Slade's\" width=\"601\" height=\"297\" \/><\/a>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dorset<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Beaches &#8211; Bournemouth is great, but there are loads of other beaches around too, including the famous Sandbanks.\u00a0 Why not take a stroll there from Bournemouth Pier?\u00a0 It\u2019s about 3.5 miles.\u00a0 From Sandbanks you can catch a ferry to Brownsea Island or across to Studland beach (this is part of the mainland but it\u2019s quicker to hop across the harbour on the water than to drive).<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Dorset.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1763\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Dorset.jpg\" alt=\"Dorset\" width=\"602\" height=\"339\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Portland &#8211; a great climbing location.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Portland.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1762\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Portland.jpg\" alt=\"Portland\" width=\"453\" height=\"604\" \/><\/a>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Corfe Castle &#8211; a lovely little village where you can have a walk, visit the ruined castle and maybe buy a gift or two in the art gallery or National Trust Shop.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Corfe-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1765\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Corfe-2.jpg\" alt=\"Corfe 2\" width=\"550\" height=\"340\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Arne &#8211; my personal favourite. A wonderful walking spot that has it all: woodland, greenery, sea views and heaps of wildlife.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/New-Forest.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1761\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/New-Forest.jpg\" alt=\"New-Forest\" width=\"602\" height=\"451\" \/><\/a>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beyond<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bath &#8211; a beautiful city that\u2019s close enough to visit for the day and lovely enough that you can happily spend a whole weekend there.\u00a0 Why not check out the Christmas Market?\u00a0 It gets super busy, but is a great way to get into the festive spirit and find some great Christmas gifts.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Bath.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1760\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Bath.jpg\" alt=\"Bath\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Exeter &#8211; ok, so again I\u2019m biased here as this is where I studied for my undergrad.\u00a0 But I liked it so much I still go back to visit as often as I can.\u00a0 If you like smaller cities that aren\u2019t too busy, this is a great one.\u00a0 It also has some lovely scenery around the cathedral and the quay.\u00a0 If you go, be sure to check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oldfirehouseexeter.co.uk\/\">The Old Firehouse<\/a> and its late night pizza!<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Exeter.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1759\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Exeter.jpg\" alt=\"Exeter\" width=\"602\" height=\"451\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Southampton &#8211; the best shopping location around!<\/p>\n<p>London &#8211; England\u2019s capital is only a couple of hours away by train, so why not make the most of it?\u00a0 During my last visit I went to Greenwich Park and saw Memphis the musical!<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/London.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1758\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/London.jpg\" alt=\"London\" width=\"602\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Memphis.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1757\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/10\/Memphis.jpg\" alt=\"Memphis\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<p><strong>By Lauren Bishop<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to Bournemouth, and what a location it is!\u00a0 If you\u2019re new to the area, I hope you\u2019ve started to enjoy the beautiful beaches, parks and everything else Bournemouth has to offer. \u00a0If you haven&#8217;t visited us yet, then there&#8217;s lots to look forward to!
