{"id":14513,"date":"2016-09-22T13:00:34","date_gmt":"2016-09-22T13:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/?p=4338"},"modified":"2016-09-22T13:00:34","modified_gmt":"2016-09-22T13:00:34","slug":"alyssas-journey-to-bu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/student-blog\/2016\/09\/22\/alyssas-journey-to-bu\/","title":{"rendered":"Alyssa&#8217;s Journey to BU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<strong>\u201cI know that I will face many challenges this next year\u2026 I am more than willing to put in the effort to overcome these challenges, and I am looking forward to arriving in Bournemouth!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Five years ago I found out that Forensic Anthropology was actually a field of study and ever since, I have been interested in pursuing it as a Master\u2019s degree. Bones\u00a0are incredibly\u00a0fascinating to me, and I can study\u00a0them for hours\u00a0at a\u00a0time.\u00a0Unfortunately,\u00a0the college I went to for\u00a0my\u00a0undergraduate degree was\u00a0too small to have any\u00a0classes\u00a0in\u00a0Forensic\u00a0Anthropology\u00a0or\u00a0even Osteology; the closest it came to either subject was\u00a0the\u00a0human\u00a0anatomy\u00a0class, which included a section on bones.<\/p>\n<p>When\u00a0I\u00a0started\u00a0looking\u00a0at\u00a0graduate schools\u00a0and Master\u2019s\u00a0programs, I had very\u00a0little idea of what\u00a0I\u00a0was\u00a0doing\u00a0and\u00a0no\u00a0one\u00a0to\u00a0ask\u00a0for\u00a0advice. At that time I had no experience in Forensic Anthropology,\u00a0I\u00a0thought\u00a0that I didn\u2019t have a competitive advantage compared to the many\u00a0other students who would be applying\u00a0for\u00a0the same\u00a0programs. Although I completed an Osteology\u00a0course, I was concerned\u00a0my\u00a0lack\u00a0of\u00a0experience would prevent me from\u00a0getting into the program I wanted.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0applied\u00a0to\u00a0three\u00a0programs\u00a0at Bournemouth representing\u00a0all of my\u00a0dreams of studying bones, hoping that one would accept my application. All of the work\u00a0I put into my\u00a0submissions\u00a0paid off, as I\u00a0was\u00a0lucky\u00a0enough\u00a0to\u00a0be\u00a0accepted to all three programs. I was\u00a0ecstatic. The MA Forensic Anthropology\u00a0programme\u00a0at\u00a0Bournemouth was\u00a0my\u00a0top choice.
