One of the main reasons I have loved studying Geography at BU is the range of fantastic trips I have been able to go on! From the very first introductory trip to Weymouth in first year, right up to doing field work at Hengistbury Head in final year, here is a round-up highlight of the trips you could be a part of if you decide to study Geography at BU, or (any other LES<\/a> course as a fair few of the units cross over)<\/p>\n

Introductory Trip to Weymouth<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was our first ever field trip at BU, and I remember it because of how great the weather turned out for us! Our Geography lecturers took us to Weymouth, showing us Chesil Beach and taking us to see the view from the top of Portland to show us just what a great place BU is to study Geography because of its surrounding natural areas. \"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Royal Geographical Society in London<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite the fact that I somehow slept through my alarm and consequently missed the 9am coach for this one (happens to the best of us), I heard from my peers that it was a great experience! The day involved an introductory talk, followed by a demonstration of some of the maps and artefacts kept by the RGS, and finally a tour of the facilities. The RGS is the UK\u2019s renowned professional body for geography, supporting geography students in a range of ways to boost employability prospects, so a great organisation to be involved with for undergraduate students.<\/p>\n

BU’s BSc (Hons) Geography course has also received accreditation from the RGS with the Institute of British Geographers!<\/p>\n

Residential Trip to the Peak District<\/strong><\/p>\n

This one was definitely one to remember. After a 6-hour coach journey, there were high hopes for the days to come, and it did not disappoint! From climbing the 517 m hill Mam Tor, in the High Peak area near Castleton, to carrying out investigations of Human Geography surveying local residents of Hope Valley, it was an unforgettable jam-packed week of Geography, tied together with some fun evenings spending our free time doing pub quizzes in the local area\u2026 Here is a more detailed piece<\/a> about this trip if you would like to read more!<\/p>\n\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\n

Apart from those, we also carried out fieldwork at Hengistbury Head, the New Forest and Brownsea Island for other units too\u2026 not to mention the various opportunities there are to go on international field trips as well! These trips have helped to diversify our learning style, and broaden the range of places that we learn about Geography, and carry out fieldwork!<\/p>\n
