{"id":1068,"date":"2015-03-11T10:38:43","date_gmt":"2015-03-11T10:38:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/?p=1068"},"modified":"2015-03-11T10:38:43","modified_gmt":"2015-03-11T10:38:43","slug":"bu-varsity-teams-make-national-sports-finals-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/student-blog\/2015\/03\/11\/bu-varsity-teams-make-national-sports-finals-2\/","title":{"rendered":"BU varsity teams make national sports finals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/03\/Womens-Football-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1069 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/postgraduate\/files\/2015\/03\/Womens-Football-1.jpg\" alt=\"Womens-Football-1\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" \/><\/a>Six Bournemouth University teams are\u00a0to compete at one of the highest levels in University Sport.<\/p>\n<p>After five months of hard work six sportBU Varsity teams have made the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Western Conference Cup finals on Wednesday 18th March.<\/p>\n<p>The leading squads, coming under Bournemouth University\u2019s sportBU banner, include Women\u2019s Badminton 1st, Women\u2019s Lacrosse 2nd, Women\u2019s Football 1st, Netball 1st, Men\u2019s Football 2nd and the Mixed Golf 4th.<\/p>\n<p>The action had already started\u00a0when the Golf 4th team met Plymouth University\u2019s 2nd\u2019s, which resulted in a solid 4-2 win for BU.<\/p>\n<p>At Bournemouth Sports Club both the Women\u2019s Football and Women\u2019s Lacrosse performed strongly.<\/p>\n<p>Women\u2019s Football beat Southampton 3-1 to secure their place in the finals where they will face a strong Gloucestershire 2nd.<\/p>\n<p>Women\u2019s Lacrosse have had an impeccable season and now have the chance to secure the Western Cup for a second year running after convincingly beating the University of West England 12-3. Star player Alana Zukas, speaking to sportBU, said, \u201cWe have had a great season; training isn\u2019t a chore but more of a social occasion for us to get together as friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Badminton team won 5-3 against University of Winchester to secure their place in the finals while Netball 1st convincingly beat Southampton 2nd\u2019s 55-33.<\/p>\n<p>The final result came from BU\u2019s Men\u2019s 2nd Football team; playing The University of St. Marks &amp; St. Johns they won 3-2, a good outcome for Bournemouth and secured BU\u2019s sixth place in the Conference Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Barry, sportBU Varsity Manager, said, &#8220;We are extremely proud of all of our Varsity teams this season who are having such great Cup and Trophy success.
