Varsity 2018

Varsity 2018 was the biggest to date and wow what a day it was. Hosted once again in Bournemouth the event saw over 900 athletes, 1200 spectators and 150 it’s a knock out competitors. 26 fixtures across 13 sports took place across three sites; Bournemouth Sports Club, Sports Hall Talbot Campus and the RAC Saddle Club.

Bournemouth Sports Club was transformed in the sunshine to accommodate Varsity where we had the Athlete Village, Live Music, Live Commentary, 1 slip and slide, 9 other exhibitors, 2 bars, 2 pizza ovens and all the food you could want. This year saw the introduction of BU Res Life It’s a Knock Out competition which had 150 competitors taking part in a range of activities from dodgeball to rock climbing. All TeamBU athletes wore rainbow laces to show their support for Stonewall cause and acceptance without exception.

Fixtures began from 0930 and ran through until 1900 which gave everyone the opportunity to check out some of the Varsity action. TeamBU dominated the score line with a comfortable 22-4 win overall however some of the fixtures were very close and could have gone either way.

The day was fantastic and described by some students as the best day of the year. The site is open to all so if you missed this year make sure you don’t miss 2019 #BUvSolent.

We would like to thank everyone who attended the event and all of our partners. A special thanks goes out to a main supports who without the event would not take place.
