TeamBU Sports Brief
At SportBU we have men’s and women’s competitive Volleyball teams that compete in the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) leagues and trophy competitions. We work closely with Volleyball England and Wessex Volleyball to ensure the development of volleyball players.
Our teams are coached by Andy Jones (Level 3 qualified, Wessex Volleyball Super 8 Coach). Jeff Brehaut (2x Olympic final referee) is our head referee and supports sportBU with its volleyball development.
Leagues & Competition Information
For the 17/18 season our men’s first team will compete in the Southern Premiership (top division) of the BUCS league as well as the Championship competition. Our men’s second team will compete in Tier 2A as well as the western Conference Cup. Our women’s first team will compete in the Southern Premiership (top division) of the BUCS league as well as the Championship competition and our women’s second team who will compete in Tier 2A as well as the western Conference Cup.

Training & Conditioning
Times: Wednesday 8.00am – 12.00pm, Friday 5.30pm-7.00pm (men’s), Monday 0700 – 0900, Thursday 0700 – 0900, Friday 1600 – 1730 (women’s).
Location: Sports Hall, Talbot Campus.
As part of each team’s weekly training schedule additional specific sessions on flexibility, SAQ (Strength, Agility and Quickness) and fitness are provided by a full time Strength & Conditioning (S&C) Coach. Our coaches work alongside the S&C coach to identify areas to focus this sports specific training to improve physical strength, power and performance.
Fixtures are played on a Wednesdays in the Sports Hall, Talbot Campus, please come down and support our teams!

Partnerships & Facilities
SportBU have extensive links with Wessex Volleyball Club and players have the opportunity to train and play for Wessex in the Volleyball England’s Super 8’s National League. Wessex Volleyball club is one of the most successful clubs in England with National League Women’s and Men’s teams. In the last ten years, Wessex under 15, 16 and 18 teams have all won national competitions and our Mini Volleyball teams have won numerous South West titles. The club also has excellent coaching opportunities in conjunction with BU.
Athletes who have played or competed at a regional, national or semi-professional standard will be eligible to Apply for a Scholarship to support them in their sport whilst at university. Coaching Opportunities/ Degree Courses
BU is home to Volleyball England’s Beach Volleyball Development Programme, supported by TASS. The main beach season runs from May to August, and includes training camps with international teams, and international tournaments organised for the athletes. The athletes are fully supported at all Volleyball England Registered events, including the National VEBT tour. Athletes will have all year round access to the world class outdoor courts at Boscombe Beach and the indoor beach volleyball facilities at the LeAF Academy Campus, situated only a mile away from Talbot Campus.
