TeamBU Sports Brief

At SportBU we have both men’s and women’s competitive rugby teams that compete in the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) leagues and trophy competitions.

Coaching Informationmale-s

The men’s team is coached by Richard Major (Level 2 qualified) and the women’s team is coached by Hughton Campbell (Level 2 qualified). Hughton Campbell (Level 2 qualified, English Universities South coach, Jamaican 7s Coach) Gordon Horsley (Level 2 qualified, Oakmedians head coach). If you would like to find out more about rugby opportunities at Bournemouth University please Contact SportBU.

Leagues & Competition Information

For the 18/19 season our men’s team will compete in Tier 1A of the BUCS league as well as the National Trophy. Our women’s team will compete in Tier 2A of the BUCS league as well as the Western Conference Cup.

Training & Conditioning

Times: Monday 5.00pm – 7.00pm, Friday 5.00pm – 6.30pm (men’s), Mondays 5.00pm – 7.00pm, Friday 5.00pm-6.30pm (women’s).

Location: Oakmedians RFC, Meyrick Park.

As part of each team’s weekly training schedule additional specific sessions on flexibility, SAQ (Strength, Agility and Quickness) and fitness are provided by a full time Strength & Conditioning (S&C) Coach. Our coaches work alongside the S&C coach to identify areas to focus this sports specific training to improve physical strength, power and performance.

Spectators

Fixtures are played on Wednesdays at Bournemouth Sports Club, please come down to support our teams!

Key Achievements

Men’s team won Tier 2A in 2017/18 and reached the semi-final of Conference Cup final in 2016/17.

Women’s team won Tier 2A in 2015/16 and spent two years in the top regional league.

Scholarship

Athletes who have played or competed at a regional, national or semi-professional standard will be eligible to Apply for a Scholarship to support them in their sport whilst at university. Players are able to play in the national and local leagues for Bournemouth Rugby Club or Oakmedians RFC.
