TeamBU Sports Brief

At SportBU we have both men’s and women’s competitive hockey teams that compete in the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) leagues and trophy competitions.

The men’s and women’s teams are coached by Adam Tapper (SportBU Coach of the year 2015-2016), who is also the coach for Bournemouth Hockey Club. If you would like to find out more about hockey opportunities at Bournemouth please Contact SportBU.

Leagues & Competition Information

For the 18/19 season our men’s first team will compete in western Tier 2A of the BUCS league as well as the Conference Cup competition, with the second team competing in western Tier 4A and the western Conference Plate. Our women’s first team will compete in Tier 2A, as well as the western Conference Cup and the women’s second team will compete in western Tier 5A and the western Conference Plate. All fixtures are played on a Wednesday afternoon.

Training & Conditioning

Times: Mondays 5.30pm – 7.00pm men’s and women’s 2nd teams. 7.00pm – 8.30pm women’s 1 and 8.30pm – 10.00pm mens 1.

Location: Bournemouth Sports Club, Chapel Gate.

As part of each team’s weekly training schedule additional specific sessions on flexibility, SAQ (Strength, Agility and Quickness) and fitness are provided by a full time Strength & Conditioning (S&C) Coach. Our coaches work alongside the S&C coach to identify areas to focus this sports specific training to improve physical strength, power and performance.

Athletes who have played or competed at a regional, national or semi-professional standard will be eligible to Apply for a Scholarship to support them in their sport whilst at university. Additional Opportunities

You can join a local team and play in the local league. Our partnership team is with Bournemouth Hockey Club.
