Bournemouth University Golf 6th Team

The basketball team is performing amazingly. All teams, such as BU MEN’S 1ST and WOMEN’S 1ST are still undefeated in their league. Men’s 2nd team are coming from a 56:49 loss to the University of Exeter. Everyone on the team trains hard, attends all training sessions and even come earlier to warm  up before training.

Our goal is to win DIVISION 1A, for Men’s 1st and Women’s 1st, and to win 3A, for Men’s 2nd, which all teams have a good shot at achieving. We will also be competing for the BUCS conference cup and the BUCS Basketball trophy. Men’s 2nd team were the only ones to reach the finals last season so we aim for all teams to reach the finals to compete for the title.

In terms of key players, our starting 5 for 3 teams are very unique, dynamic and have had a positive impact on the team.

From the Women’s 1st team

MADDIE no. 10 – (Scholar) very capable shooter

Zemoria no. 20 – (Scholar) a very smooth and fluid player in every aspect of the game

Ellen no. 14– (Team Captain) standing at 6’2” she has no competition when it comes to rebounds and low post offence

Ariike no. 45 – One of the most explosive and highest leapers of the starting 5; always finding her near the rim

Dez no. 24 – (Scholar) she can shoot but can also finish strong when driving to the basket

Ellen Lewis, Women’s Captain says:

“BU women’s basketball team is currently undefeated and top of the league. We aim to remain undefeated for the rest of the season and gain promotion to the prem league for next year. Everyone is a key player and each have unique strengths. We all share the love and enthusiasm for the sport, so we love to challenge each other on court whilst having a great relationship off the court also.”

MEN’S 1st Team

Wayne no. 12 – our team’s rim protector; he’s there to reject shots and he’s there to dunk whenever he feels like it

DeWan no. 72 – (scholar) arguably the most explosive on the team; one of the best finisher’s around the rim so expect a lot of ‘and 1’ calls

Tyler no. 55 – (scholar) very connected to the game; able to do everything from shooting, defending, passing, dunking and all of the above

Niv no. 7 – (Scholar) one that proves height is not everything in basketball; a lock down defender on one end and a scorer on the other end

Fawaz no. 8 – (Captain) he’s injured now; he may play this Wednesday; known for his long distance 3pt shots, creative handles and outburst of speed

MEN’s 2nd Team

Joe no. 70– the team’s leading point guard: able to control the pace of the game and the team but is not shy of scoring if he must

Tyler no. 51 – our most consistent ‘pump faker’ which defenders always fall for; very capable to shooting

Chris no. 53 – one of our most well-rounded players; someone who can get rebounds, shoot that jump shot and defend on the other end of the court

Marcus no.40 (Captain) – never judge a book by its cover; one of the best post players on the team but also willing to move the ball

Gerald no.4 – quiet but shows his passion in the way he plays; grabbing every rebound he sees and defends hard against the player he’s guarding
