BUWRFC 1 10-0 University West of England 1 (BU Win)

Womens Rugby Head Coach Hughton Campbell gives his account of BUWRFC’s progression into the BUCS Conference Cup Semi-final:

I am so pleased to announce that BUWRFC have achieved heights never achieved before in its history. Yesterday, the women’s’ Rugby team currently lying in first place having not conceded one point secured their position in the Semi-finals of the cup.

The team led by Captain Izzie West, powered through an extremely tough and resolute opposition UWE. The match was peppered with 3 nose injuries and 1 suspected broken hand but BU were not to be taken lightly despite the opposition efforts. BU took the fight to UWE with herculean tackles from Izzie West who managed to amass over 15 tackle per half, this was closely shadowed by Lou Burgess, Zena (BigZ) Colevill. The scoring attack was relentless by pace girls Mel Lancaster and Kiera Paul- Jones. Whilst last years captain Lucy Juffkins stood head and shoulders above most players on the pitch. This year’s Captain Izzie West raised the bar and with that tackle count alone, ensured BU’s Pathway to the Semifinals in 2 weeks’ time against Hartpury at a venue yet to be announced.

BU return to Chapel Gate next Wednesday to play second in the table Southampton Solent in a winner takes all encounter. We hope that you can support us at 2.00pm.
