Bournemouth inspired by their win against Bristol the previous week, set out with a clear game plan to press their opponents Swansea right from the first whistle. The team knew the importance of this game in terms of league standings and games remaining, and also knew that Swansea had a long journey to make.
Bournemouth pressed with the intention of winning the ball high up the pitch, aiming to deny Swansea time on the ball in which to build any rhythm. A wrongly disallowed goal for offside did not stop the blue side and it wasn’t long before the pressure told forcing an own goal from a corner. Continuing to attack from different angles and some excellent approach work down the left allowed Tiffany Skinner the room to cut inside a couple of defenders, before unleashing a right footed shot into the top corner.
At half time, the message of don’t switch off was firmly received and understood. Within minutes of the 2nd half starting, more Bournemouth pressure came in the form of a left footed ball right into the channel from Charlotte Sullivan, good movement by the strikers meant they were able to hold and deliver a dangerous cross. The half cleared cross popped up into the air, and was met sweetly by the right foot of Olivia Mari on the volley to make it 3-0.
By this point Swansea were just about beaten, but they kept themselves and the BU defence busy with a few counter attacks. Generally though Bournemouth created more chances and with better finishing the score could have been higher. A very good all round team performance, creative, energetic and solid in defence ensured the 3 points were secured.
