Seven students with conditions including muscular dystrophy and cystic fibrosis spent an afternoon at SportBU as part of their sports leader’s award.

On Friday 22nd January SportBU hosted Victoria Education Centre students and staff. All students were keen sport enthusiasts who participate in a host of activities including power ball and wheelchair rugby. The visit began with a facilities tour of SportBU which included; the fitness studios, gym, strength and conditioning suite and sports hall, followed by a presentation from Duty Manager Tim Harris on what BU can offer disabled users. The afternoon ended with a sports hall Hockey session led by Participation Manager Chris Payne which students were extremely keen for! Interestingly for SportBU the students adapted their hockey sticks in line with their abilities to level the playing field in this session. Sport Development Administrator Natalie said ‘the afternoon was fantastic for everyone involved. For SportBU it was great to meet the students and for us to showcase SportBU facilities’. SportBU looks forward to welcoming the students again soon, to watch the varsity volleyball team in one of their BUCS fixtures.
