On Sunday 4th October 28 BU students successfully marshalled one of six sectors of the Bournemouth Marathon Festival.
Students from across BU came together to cheer on and manage one of six marathon sectors at last weekends local marathon. Over 12,000 keen runners took to the streets of Bournemouth on a course that winded it’s way through the town and across both Boscombe and Bournemouth piers. The student marshals lined the course ensuring all runners were supported as well as dealing with spectator queries and potential first aid incidents from fatigued runners.
Barry Squires, Business and Partnerships manager at SportBU and marshal leader said: “It’s great to support a major event like this on our doorstep and work with BMF in giving opportunities for students to experience such a large scale event. The event is growing year on year and our involvement has meant that so far over 85 students have been able to experience marshal duties.”
This is the third year SportBU has supported the major event that also includes hosting crew meetings and training on campus in the lead up to the event.
