On Saturday 18th April 13 campaigners from Bournemouth University Varsity teams raised funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK at the AFC Bournemouth V Sheffield Wednesday Championship fixture.

The volunteers spent two hours before kick-off at various points around the Fitness First Stadium as match day campaigners. The aim of the day was to increase awareness of Prostate Cancer by handing out information to match day supporters and to raise funds; which would go towards combating the cancer which currently affects around 1 in 8 men within the UK.

The campaigners who were from various Varsity teams including Lacrosse, Football, Table Tennis and Squash all gave up their time for this great cause during their Easter break. After the collection the athletes and staff were invited into the stadium to watch the game where Bournemouth drew 2-2 in a very exciting game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Varsity Manager Michael Barry, who supported the event said “it’s such a great cause and was a fantastic opportunity for Varsity Athletes to get out into the community and was great to see Bournemouth play”

Overall, the team raised £1699.81, which is an increase of 60% on the previous year and represents a fantastic achievement for such a great cause.
