Men’s Volleyball are second in the National Championships and Men’s Football take silver in the Trophy Challenge Cup.
sportBU came away with two silver medals from BUCS Big Wednesday to add to this year’s fantastically successful season after putting up a real fight for the Top Spots.
In the Men’s Volleyball, with a pre-match meeting with HRH Princess Anne courtside, both teams were up for the contest in front of a good crowd. BU eventually succumbed 1-3 to Sheffield Hallam after a closely fought battle over 4 sets.
BU’s Volleyball Men’s first have had a very successful season winning the Premier South Division having not lost a match. Added to this they were crowed Volleyball England Student Cup Champions in February. Bournemouth qualified for the national finals by beating Northumbria University in the Semi Final.
BU Men’s Football 1st team competed in the BUCS National Trophy Final and got off to a strong start which saw Leeds Beckett under pressure with several chances to take the lead going wide. However Leeds regained control and began to capitalise on their strength and height eventually putting 3 goals past BU to end the scoring 3-1.
The BU side, who started their league campaign securing only 3 points from their first five games, treated their Trophy Campaign with real focus and determination and saw off 4 other teams to line up the Final against Leeds Beckett University. The team’s success in the Trophy transferred into their league performances where they eventually only missed out on the Premiership playoffs by a single point.
Both results mark a fantastic achievement for Bournemouth University and each team has raised the bar on previous performances and should be very proud of their BUCS Silver Medals.
All BU students from both teams have shown real dedication this season to get this far and have put BU on the map with the top sporting institutions in the country. We would like to thank all the coaches and staff who supported these teams and to our opponents for helping to create two great matches.
