sportBU is supporting the campaign #ThisGirlCan which promotes sporting success and participation in girls sport.

This week saw four of BU’s top Varsity girls teams complete their British Colleges and University Sport (BUCS) league seasons, bringing home two league titles and pride to BU.

Womens Football 1st began their fixture on Wednesday knowing that only a win against Plymouth University would see them top the BUCS 2A division and secure promotion. The girls came into the game confidently, however were very prepared and did not take the game lightly. The team dominated the game from the start and finished as 9-1 winners. The team will now travel to Exeter next week for the Conference Cup Final where they will play Gloucestershire.

The Womens Lacrosse team also had a league decider game against Plymouth University. The girls stood their ground and controlled the game from the start and finished 20-13 winners. This result completed their season unbeaten and fills the team with confidence for their up coming Conference Cup Final in Exeter.

Womens Netball 1st took the short journey to Southampton Solent where  they ended their season with a comfortable 53-35 win to see them finish 2nd in division 1. The team will also represent BU next week in Exeter at the Conference Cup Finals.

Womens Tennis 1st were the final team in action this week and travelled to UWE. The girls began the match by taking both doubles games and came out 12-0 winners.

Michael Barry, Varsity Manager, said “our Varsity sporting success is outstanding this year and this campaign is a great way to celebrate and promote girls sport across BU”.
