BU Varsity Journalist, Wilfred Collins, provides a preview for 2015

As the second half of the varsity season dawns on Bournemouth University here is a quick look back and all the BUCS action from the past few weeks with a glimpse of what’s to come next week.

Bournemouth University is currently 30th overall in the BUCS university league standings after a strong first half to the season. The university stands with 726 overall league points in the Western division alongside a total of 72 cup points.

Volleyball in particular has seen a great season so far including a great home game against UEL seeing them take away a 3-0 victory. The team will be expecting great things this year after being one of BU’s most successful sports teams in 2014.

Things are looking up for Men’s Rugby who only won a total of four games last season but have now seen much greater improvement in part due to the focus simply on a single 1st team this year. The team currently sit top of BUCS Western 2A.

Lacrosse saw some tight battles before the holiday break with the Men’s team winning by a single point when they played their biggest rivals Swansea. Unluckily Men’s Lacrosse midfield player George Welch was injured in training last week, a blog for the team though their strong performance so far in the season is sure to help push them through losing another player to injury.

This week will see Golf fixtures begin, one of the university’s key sports. The mixed team will play on Wednesday the first official day of action for a BU squad in 2015, while the rest of the varsity teams will see action begin properly on the 28th of January.

Each week from the start of the second half of the season sportBU will be providing a glimpse into the training of specific teams before big games, this will be all the pre-match hype
