{"id":2103,"date":"2018-02-08T11:23:28","date_gmt":"2018-02-08T11:23:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/ori\/?p=2103"},"modified":"2024-12-16T11:35:51","modified_gmt":"2024-12-16T11:35:51","slug":"the-buori-is-the-first-place-in-the-world-to-have-their-own-virtamed-arthros-hip-simulator-to-train-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/ori\/2018\/02\/08\/the-buori-is-the-first-place-in-the-world-to-have-their-own-virtamed-arthros-hip-simulator-to-train-on\/","title":{"rendered":"The BUORI is the first place in the world to have their own VirtaMed ArthroS&#x2122; hip simulator to train on."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/staffprofiles.bournemouth.ac.uk\/display\/rmiddleton\">Professor Middleton<\/a> has been involved in the development of robotic surgery and the use of computer navigation in surgery since 1997 when he published a paper titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1243\/0954411971534403\">Active compliance in robotic surgery \u2013 the use of force control as a dynamic constraint.<\/a>\u201d More recently Professor Middleton and <a href=\"https:\/\/staffprofiles.bournemouth.ac.uk\/display\/twainwright\">Associate Professor Wainwright<\/a> have collaborated with colleagues from the Faculty of Science &amp; Technology at Bournemouth University to publish a review of the current literature on virtual reality based training in orthopaedic surgery. Further work on the use of virtual reality training simulators in orthopaedics continues within ORI and with academic partners from the BU National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA), and also leading industry partners. ORI is now working in collaboration with VirtaMed in the Netherlands in developing world leading virtual reality trainers.
