November 2014

My first monthly update – you must wonder what I have been up to in the last five months! Well, the first few months were all about immersion, so dived right into the organisation in June and have now surfaced having gained insights into our unique context – past and present. The next six months will be characterised by shaping a vision for taking BU global over the next planning period.

We began this phase in November with a reminder of why we do what we do: Graduations. I had a fantastic time at my first graduations at BU – felt so BUProud!

On the last day of the graduations week I flew to Taipei for the 10th QS Apple conference and to meet a number of universities, our alumni and our agents across Taiwan. Did you know BU was one of the top ten UK recruiters of Taiwanese students?!

I continued my travels into mainland China starting in Beijing and covering one city a day for the rest of the week meeting a selection of current and prospective partners. Highlight of the week had to be a visit to the offices of Oriental Dreamworks Shanghai who employ some of my alumni and are at the start of their journey into building their base in China with exciting and ambitious plans for the development of their talent pipeline.

I returned in mid-November with a nasty bug – so was out of action for a few days! Had a grand time at the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards night – lots of positive comments from colleagues and the THE team on my opinion piece Rebuilding Brand Britain.
