The Socket Plunger PRO is a jig designed to be used with an angle grinder to cut electrical socket holes in inner cavity walls. Its been carefully engineered for the home DIY market, where it offers an alternative to existing methods that are slow and labour intensive. The product uses a carbide-cutting piece to route out the socket holes, with the jig dictating the parameters.
Once the user’s own angle grinder is clamped into the plunger assembly, it can be used alongside the jig to produce quick, clean and precise socket holes with relative ease.
The robust, powerful nature of the angle grinder make it an ideal power source, one that is widely accessible to DIYers and can be purchased for a small amount from hardware stores. The carbide-tipped cutting piece screws directly onto the angle grinder’s shaft, which is then secured in place with a spanner.
The product has been designed for quick assembly and disassembly, so it can be stored and moved about easily. It comes with a dust extraction attachment, which can be used with most domestic and industrial vacuum cleaners to collect some of the dust produced.
Adjustability is key to the product’s functionality, allowing it to be customised for both right- and left-handed users with a multi-positional foot support. Two interchangeable guide plates enable it to produce single and double electrical socket holes.
Extendable legs enable operational heights of between 450mm and 1200mm, complying with current building regulations for sockets and light fittings. The main shell can be moved back or forth to accommodate skirting boards up to 18mm so a firm contact with the wall can always be achieved. The depth regulator controls plunging depths of the cutting piece, with three customisable setting that can be quickly switch between.
