The technology manufacturer has filed a\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"http:\/\/pdfaiw.uspto.gov\/.aiw?Docid=20190026871\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">design patent<\/a>\u00a0for a future\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/the-best-vr-headset\">VR headset<\/a>, one that makes use of a curved\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/television\/oled-tv-what-you-need-to-know-1056228\">OLED display<\/a>\u00a0instead of a flat screen.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve already seen high-quality OLED displays in VR with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/reviews\/samsung-hmd-odyssey\">Samsung HMD Odyssey<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/we-tried-the-craziest-vr-headset-on-the-market\">VR Hero Plus<\/a>, while Google is also looking to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/google-to-unveil-high-resolution-oled-on-glass-display-for-vr-headsets\">bring the &#8216;organic&#8217; display technology to bear in its VR headsets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While the patent application isn&#8217;t a guarantee we&#8217;ll see a curved display model, companies are fiercely competing for a hold in the VR market, at a time when countless models are available but have yet to truly take off in terms of consumer interest.<\/p>\n<p>Samsung has made no secret of its ambitions in VR, with a host of virtual reality or mixed reality headsets like the HMD Odyssey or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/reviews\/samsung-gear-vr-2017\">Gear VR<\/a>, and plans to create a series of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/samsung-is-developing-multiple-vr-only-tv-series\">VR-exclusive TV shows<\/a>\u00a0to offer through its devices.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/samsung-wants-to-bring-curved-oled-displays-to-vr\">READ MORE HERE &gt;&gt;&gt;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Samsung is throwing a curveball into VR headsets&#8230;. or at least, a curve.
