{"id":7623,"date":"2018-04-05T06:11:58","date_gmt":"2018-04-05T06:11:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cel\/?p=7623"},"modified":"2018-04-05T06:12:36","modified_gmt":"2018-04-05T06:12:36","slug":"20-ideas-for-this-years-prep-ivle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/2018\/04\/05\/20-ideas-for-this-years-prep-ivle\/","title":{"rendered":"20 ideas for this year&#8217;s PREP, iVLE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>iVLE is the PREP activity for 17\/18.\u00a0 Please click here for <a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=6566&amp;action=edit\">more information on the background and aims of\u00a0 iVLE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The result of this PREP activity is having a very positive impact on students as this graph of the benefits shows:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/hss\/2018\/03\/22\/20-suggestions-for-this-years-prep-ivle\/screen-shot-2018-03-22-at-16-34-54\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16082\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16082\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/hss\/files\/2018\/03\/Screen-Shot-2018-03-22-at-16.34.54.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"669\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a>\n<p>All four faculties are engaging with the same PREP activity this year and we have seen some excellent examples of innovation in teaching and learning across the university.\u00a0 We are also aware that some staff have completed their activity but are yet to document it using the online form.\u00a0 Here is a link to the <a href=\"https:\/\/bournemouth.onlinesurveys.ac.uk\/ivle-questionnaire-hss\">online form for HSS<\/a>.\u00a0 The form is very quick to complete.<\/p>\n<p>iVLE is intended to be a group activity.\u00a0 It is sufficient for one person to submit the form on behalf of the group and to include the group member names within the form.<\/p>\n<p>If you have not yet completed your activity, don&#8217;t worry, there is still time.\u00a0 It would be great if you could complete and document your PREP activity sooner rather than later as CEL is due to report on iVLE at the ESEC meeting in May.<\/p>\n<p>Here are 20 examples of the PREP activities already recorded by staff:<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Blended learning<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/hss\/2018\/03\/22\/20-suggestions-for-this-years-prep-ivle\/blended-learning-vision-076-cropped\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16094\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16094 size-thumbnail alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/hss\/files\/2018\/03\/Blended-Learning-Vision-076-Cropped-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>\n<ol>\n<li>Created &#8216;follow-me&#8217; videos using <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/tools-support-tel\/partially-supported-tools\/camtasia\">Camtasia<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Used\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/our-people\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/tools-support-tel\/fully-supported-tools\/panopto\">Panopto<\/a> to record guest lectures, produce introductory videos for students and clarify issues for students<\/li>\n<li>Developed a virtual reality learning environment for students<\/li>\n<li>Used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks?topics%5B%5D=technology&amp;sort=newest\">TED Talks<\/a> to augment in-class learning<\/li>\n<li>Created online resources for CPD students who are working full-time<\/li>\n<li>Augmented a Powerpoint presentation by <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/tools-support-tel\/partially-supported-tools\/ispring\">adding an audio sound track<\/a> and presenting it to students as a video.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Flipped classroom<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/hss\/2018\/03\/22\/20-suggestions-for-this-years-prep-ivle\/student-learning-hero-image\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16092\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-16092 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/hss\/files\/2018\/03\/Student-learning-hero-image-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>1. Many staff have Experimented with different pedagogic approaches, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/pedagogical-approaches-tel\/flipped-classroom\">flipped classroom<\/a>, to move the learning to before the interaction with students.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Assessment<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/hss\/2018\/03\/22\/20-suggestions-for-this-years-prep-ivle\/two-students-and-a-laptop\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16091\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-16091 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/hss\/files\/2018\/03\/Two-students-and-a-laptop-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>\n<ol>\n<li>Produced a series of videos to help students with assessment<\/li>\n<li>Explored the use of audio feedback as an improvement over written feedback<\/li>\n<li>Developed innovative <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/pedagogical-approaches-tel\/assessment\">assessments<\/a> for students<\/li>\n<li>Designed a peer-review process<\/li>\n<li>Scheduled formative feedback sessions within seminars<\/li>\n<li>Used quizzes for summative assessment<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Engagement<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/hss\/2018\/03\/22\/20-suggestions-for-this-years-prep-ivle\/img_2369\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16089\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-16089 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/hss\/files\/2018\/03\/IMG_2369-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>\n<ol>\n<li>Used discussion boards to improve the quality and breadth of communication with students<\/li>\n<li>Created a co-ordinated approach to unit presentation in a programme within Brightspace so that students have a consistent experience<\/li>\n<li>Used tools from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/pedagogical-approaches-technology-enhanced-learning-tel\">TEL Toolkit<\/a> to develop student engagement eg <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/our-people\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/pedagogical-approaches-tel\/padlet\">Padlet<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/tools-support-tel\/tools-are-advised\/mentimeter\">Mentimeter<\/a> and YouTube<\/li>\n<li>Engaged students by asking them to present their work from their own devices using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/our-people\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/tools-support-tel\/fully-supported-tools\/using-presentation-equipment\">WIFI Present option on the lecterns<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Deployed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/our-people\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/tools-support-tel\/fully-supported-tools\/talis-aspire-reading-lists\">reading list<\/a> to clarify expectations for reading before lectures and seminars<\/li>\n<li>Used GoTo Webinar to allow a large group of dispersed students to work together<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Brightspace<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/hss\/2018\/03\/22\/20-suggestions-for-this-years-prep-ivle\/brightspacelogo-1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16097\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-16097 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/hss\/files\/2018\/03\/BrightspaceLogo-1-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>\n<ol>\n<li>There were many PREP activities using <a href=\"https:\/\/brightspace.bournemouth.ac.uk\/d2l\/home\/18315\">Brightspace<\/a>, including the use of quizzes, lockers for group work, FAQs, using group functionality and intelligent agents.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>If you would like more support with PREP, please speak to your faculty representatives or to us in CEL.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>iVLE is the PREP activity for 17\/18.\u00a0 Please click here for more information on the background and aims of\u00a0 iVLE.
