{"id":7619,"date":"2018-04-04T12:34:41","date_gmt":"2018-04-04T12:34:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cel\/?p=7619"},"modified":"2018-04-04T12:34:41","modified_gmt":"2018-04-04T12:34:41","slug":"aldinhe-report-on-the-teachable-machine-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/2018\/04\/04\/aldinhe-report-on-the-teachable-machine-workshop\/","title":{"rendered":"ALDinHE: report on the &#8216;teachable machine&#8217; workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the ALDinHE Conference the affordances of Google&#8217;s Teachable Machine were explored in a workshop co-run by Dr Mike Hobbs (Anglia Ruskin University) and Professor Debbie Holley (Bournemouth University)<\/p>\n<p>In their future careers students will increasingly encounter machine-learning systems, so it is appropriate to develop a deeper understanding to demystify this technology as the new &#8216;Deep Learning&#8217; approach as outlined in the MIT technology Review\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/s\/513696\/deep-learning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/s\/513696\/deep-learning<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Our workshop offered an entry level taster, (\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/teachablemachine.withgoogle.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/teachablemachine.withgoogle.com\/<\/a>) where participants used webcams to capture three actions such as waving, facial expression or hand signals.
