THE to launch European Teaching Excellence Rankings<\/a><\/h3>\n

The THE <\/i>Teaching Excellence Summit, which will be hosted by the University of Glasgow<\/a> from 10 to 12 July 2018, will explore the evolution of the teaching model, digital innovation in teaching, developing excellence through active learning, global variations in approaches to teaching and measuring learning gain.<\/p>\n

It will also launch the first THE <\/i>European Teaching Excellence Rankings<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Confirmed speakers include Simon Bates, director of the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology at the University of British Columbia<\/a> and chair of the educational innovation cluster of the Universitas 21 Global University Network, and Si\u00e2n Bayne, assistant principal of digital education at the University of Edinburgh<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Shearer West, provost and deputy vice-chancellor of the University of Sheffield<\/a>, who will become vice-chancellor of the University of Nottingham<\/a> in October, will also speak at the event.<\/p>\n

The summit will also hear from Beverley Oliver, deputy vice-chancellor of education at Deakin University<\/a>, and Robert A. Duke, director of the Center for Music Learning at the University of Texas at Austin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The University of Glasgow is currently engaged in a \u00a31 billion programme of investment into its facilities, which includes the construction of a new Learning and Teaching Hub.<\/p>\n

Sir Anton Muscatelli, principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Glasgow, said: \u201cOur ambitious investment plan will enable even more of our inspiring people to come together within world-class facilities \u2013 large interdisciplinary research spaces that offer flexibility and stimulate collaboration, and modern student spaces that will combine study and social learning space with multi-styled and technology-enabled teaching.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will create a campus that we hope will inspire the next generation of world changers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Phil Baty, editorial director of global rankings at THE<\/i>, said: \u201cI\u2019m delighted that we will be dedicating three days to the evolution of teaching excellence in higher education. This is a field that is an absolute building block of modern society, and it constantly innovates, experiments, embraces technology and looks to the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy bringing together university leaders, world-class thinkers, government policymakers, edtech innovators and investors all to the University of Glasgow, we can really set the agenda for what pedagogic excellence needs to resemble over the next couple of decades \u2013 and how it can be achieved.\u201d<\/p>\n
