17<sup>th<\/sup>&#8211; 19<sup>th<\/sup> 2017<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: #fffffd;margin: 12pt 0cm;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color: #565656;font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans';font-size: 12.5pt\">This is evidence-based, practice-based course, is aimed at doctoral students who are or will be supporting teaching activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: #fffffd;margin: 12pt 0cm;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color: #565656;font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans';font-size: 12.5pt\">The <b>course<\/b> has four main <b>aims<\/b>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"background: #fffffd;margin: 12pt 0cm;line-height: normal\">\n<h6><span style=\"color: #565656;font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans';font-size: 12.5pt\">To introduce students to theoretical and practical knowledge on adult learning, with special emphasis on the UK context.<\/span><\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"background: #fffffd;margin: 12pt 0cm;line-height: normal\">\n<h6><span style=\"color: #565656;font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans';font-size: 12.5pt\">To introduce students to the HEA UKPSF standards and the dimensions of Areas of Activity, Core Knowledge and Professional Values that underpin teaching and supporting learning.<\/span><\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"background: #fffffd;margin: 12pt 0cm;line-height: normal\">\n<h6><span style=\"color: #565656;font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans';font-size: 12.5pt\">To familiarise students with BU\u2019s services and schemes for teaching and learning, as well as with leaning technology tools.<\/span><\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"background: #fffffd;margin: 12pt 0cm;line-height: normal\">\n<h6><span style=\"color: #565656;font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans';font-size: 12.5pt\">To provide students with opportunities to discuss and reflect about their particular teaching goals, and to offer a collegial space where they can receive feedback on their teaching practice.<\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color: #565656;font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans';font-size: 12.5pt\">Topics<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color: #565656;font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans';font-size: 12.5pt\"> covered in the course include:<br \/>\n\u2022 The student experience of learning.<br \/>\n\u2022 Planning student-centred learning.<br \/>\n\u2022 Working in large and small groups.<br \/>\n\u2022 Assessment for learning.<br \/>\n\u2022 The potential of learning technology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: #fffffd;color: #000000;line-height: normal;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-style: normal;font-weight: normal;margin-top: 12pt;margin-bottom: 12pt\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color: #565656;font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans';font-size: 12.5pt\">On the final day we celebrate our students\u2019 learning by engaging them in a <i>micro-teaching task<\/i>, where they receive feedback and recommendations to improve their teaching practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: #fffffd;color: #000000;line-height: normal;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-style: normal;font-weight: normal;margin-top: 12pt;margin-bottom: 12pt\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color: #565656;font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans';font-size: 12.5pt\">The course is supported through online materials in myBU.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: #fffffd;color: #000000;line-height: normal;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt;font-style: normal;font-weight: normal;margin-top: 12pt;margin-bottom: 12pt\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color: #565656;font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans';font-size: 12.5pt\">Taking the course as a stepping stone, an optional follow up session will be organised for those students who would like to apply for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heacademy.ac.uk\/recognition-accreditation\/fellowships\/become-associate-fellow-hea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #d81476\">Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy<\/span><\/a> through the internal scheme <a href=\"https:\/\/staffintranet.bournemouth.ac.uk\/workingatbu\/staffdevelopmentandengagement\/fusiondevelopment\/deliveringinspirationaleducation\/teachbu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #d81476\">TeachBU<\/span><\/a> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/higher-education-network\/2014\/nov\/25\/10-ways-to-make-the-most-of-your-time-as-a-phd-student\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #d81476\">a great way of enhancing the doctoral studies experience in preparation for academic posts<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p
