Anglia Ruskin are developing significant expertise and a reputation for active learning approaches; Prof Mike Sharples is an expert of MOOCs and mobile learning.<\/p>\n<p>====<\/p>\n<p>Anglia Ruskin University is running an <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anglia.ac.uk\/anglia-learning-and-teaching\/cpd-opportunities\/events\/active-learning-conference-2017\">Active Learning Conference<\/a> <\/strong>on 12 September 2017 at our Cambridge Campus with pre-conference masterclasses on 11 September.<\/p>\n<p>The main conference will be opened on 12 September by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/ms8679\">Professor Mike Sharples<\/a><\/strong>, Chair in Educational Technology Learning and Teaching Innovation, Open University, whose keynote address will focus on \u2018<strong>Designs for Active Learning\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pre-Conference masterclasses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the afternoon of 11 September, 14:00-17:00 we\u2019re offering masterclasses in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Effective task design for active learning (Team-Based Learning<\/li>\n<li>Up and running with SCALE-UP<\/li>\n<li>The Goldilocks Zone \u2013 Asking the right questions for active learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Addressing barriers to student success<br \/>\n<\/strong>The conference will link <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bradford.ac.uk\/life-sciences\/pharmacy\/team-based-learning\/\">Team-Based Learning at University of Bradford<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www4.ntu.ac.uk\/adq\/teaching\/scale_up\/index.html\">SCALE-UP at Nottingham Trent University<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anglia.ac.uk\/anglia-learning-and-teaching\/good-teaching-practice-and-innovation\/approaches-to-learning-and-teaching\/active-collaborative-learning\">Anglia Ruskin University\u2019s active learning practices<\/a> as part of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hefce.ac.uk\/sas\/barriers\/\">HEFCE Catalyst funded project<\/a> to address barriers to student success, hence the main conference is<strong>free<\/strong> <strong>to delegates from HEFCE funded institutions<\/strong>, while there is a modest \u00a3100 fee for those from other institutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conference aims:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>introduce active learning approaches through master classes;<\/li>\n<li>share good practice in using and embedding active learning approaches in the curriculum;<\/li>\n<li>provide opportunities to learn new skills and techniques.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anglia.ac.uk\/anglia-learning-and-teaching\/cpd-opportunities\/events\/active-learning-conference-2017\/call-for-proposals\">Call for Proposals<\/a> \u2013 <\/strong>we\u2019re particularly interested in proposals which focus on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>innovative teaching methods<\/li>\n<li>engaging students in collaborative learning<\/li>\n<li>improving retention and progression<\/li>\n<li>supporting differential learning outcomes<\/li>\n<li>improving attendance, and participation<\/li>\n<li>enhancing student experience and satisfaction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The deadline for submissions is<strong> 30 June 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Registration for the conference and masterclasses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/store.anglia.ac.uk\/conferences-and-events\/conferences-events\/conference-events\/active-learning-conference\">Book<\/a> your place for the main conference event on 12 September (FREE to HEFCE funded institutions)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/store.anglia.ac.uk\/conferences-and-events\/conferences-events\/conference-events\/active-learning-conference-masterclasses\">Book<\/a> your Master class, 11 September (\u00a375)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>____________________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sharon Waller<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Head of Anglia Learning and Teaching<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear BU colleagues Please see below &#8211;
