{"id":5103,"date":"2017-04-12T18:19:33","date_gmt":"2017-04-12T18:19:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cel\/?p=5103"},"modified":"2017-04-12T18:21:15","modified_gmt":"2017-04-12T18:21:15","slug":"5103","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/2017\/04\/12\/5103\/","title":{"rendered":"The many uses of a programme map"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the posters presented at today&#8217;s\u00a0Association for Learning Development in Higher Education (ALDinHE) conference at the University of Hull was by Phil Mathews,\u00a0Senior Lecturer in Screenwriting in FMC.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2017\/04\/PMattnews.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5104\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2017\/04\/PMattnews.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"785\" height=\"591\" srcset=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2017\/04\/PMattnews.jpg 785w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2017\/04\/PMattnews-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2017\/04\/PMattnews-768x578.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 785px) 100vw, 785px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>The source issue for this poster was that the\u00a0BA (Hons) Scriptwriting for Film and Television (BASW) programme\u00a0has lots of opportunities both curricular and extra-curricular activities, however communicating these opportunities to students was not necessarily as expected.<\/p>\n<p>The programme map\u00a0that Phil presented was an attempt to capture the course network visually in order to communicate what was<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>in place for students. It was also a way to establish a dialogue between students and University provision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Having communicated the poster to students, Phil found that, rather than discovering gaps in\u00a0the provision for BASW,\u00a0a lot of initiatives were not known about which has made the team re-examine student communication. \u00a0This was a revelation as the team had\u00a0traditionally added more and more content without consolidating what was already available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The\u00a0process has therefore provided a wider perspective on the team&#8217;s approach to student engagement and course\u00a0enhancement. \u00a0Feedback from students provided valuable insights for staff\u00a0into how the course is\u00a0perceived by students which is not always in alignment with staff perceptions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The programme map is a very good idea for teams wishing to review their programmes and students&#8217; perceptions and is a great foundation for evaluation, assessment and seeking ways to enhance the student experience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the posters presented at today&#8217;s\u00a0Association for Learning Development in Higher Education (ALDinHE) conference at the University of Hull was by Phil Mathews,\u00a0Senior Lecturer in Screenwriting in FMC.
