{"id":5031,"date":"2017-04-05T09:37:16","date_gmt":"2017-04-05T09:37:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cel\/?p=5031"},"modified":"2017-04-04T04:40:16","modified_gmt":"2017-04-04T04:40:16","slug":"the-oer-hub-update-on-things-oer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/2017\/04\/05\/the-oer-hub-update-on-things-oer\/","title":{"rendered":"The OER hub &#8211; update on things OER"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"entry-title\">Apologies for posting &#8211; those interested, please contact the OER Hub team<\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"entry-title\">and last week, info about the conference here: activity in #openeducationwk 2017<\/h2>\n<div class=\"post-content\">\n<p>As ever, there is a lot happening here at the Hub and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openeducationweek.org\/\">Open Education Week 2017<\/a> provides a great opportunity to update everyone on what we\u2019ve been up to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>With our <a href=\"http:\/\/go-gn.net\/\">GO-GN<\/a> hat on we recently returned from South Africa where we ran our annual workshop for PhD students. \u00a0You can read\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/go-gn.net\/go-gn\/two-and-a-half-days-in-cape-town\/\">full story<\/a> over on the GO-GN blog, but suffice it to say that we had a pretty stimulating meeting with a great bunch and it\u2019s encouraging to see discussions continuing online!<\/li>\n<li>While in Cape Town we also attended <a href=\"http:\/\/conference.oeconsortium.org\/2017\/\">Open Education Global<\/a>, where we got a welcome chance to catch up with colleagues from around the world.<\/li>\n<li>We were delighted to be given an \u2018Honourable Mention\u2019 in the Course\/OCW\/MOOC category of the annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oeconsortium.org\/projects\/open-education-awards-for-excellence\/honorable-mentions\/\">Open Education Awards for Excellence<\/a>\u00a0for <em>Becoming an Open Educator.<\/em>\u00a0<em>\u00a0<\/em>This open badged course\u00a0was collaboratively developed as part of our research work for <a href=\"https:\/\/oepscotland.org\/\">Opening Educational Practices in Scotland (OEPS)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>At the beginning of the month, we met with\u00a0partners from the <a href=\"http:\/\/bizmooc.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\">BizMOOC project<\/a> to discuss the set-up, design and production of three MOOCs on \u2018Learning to Learn\u2019, \u2018Entrepreneurship\u2019, and \u2018Creativity and Innovation\u2019. We should be ready to roll at the end of the summer, so keep your eyes peeled.<\/li>\n<li>One <strong>important<\/strong> activity for Open Education Week that we are involved with (and would appreciate your contribution to!) is the development of a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Folksonomy\">folksonomic<\/a> tagging system for the <a href=\"https:\/\/oerworldmap.org\/\">OER World Map<\/a>. \u00a0You can read the <a href=\"https:\/\/oerworldmap.wordpress.com\/2017\/03\/20\/open-education-week-2017-making-sense-of-the-oer-world-map-through-the-use-of-folksonomies\/\">full blog post<\/a> for more on the background, but it\u2019s easy to get involved. \u00a0First\u00a0and foremost, if you haven\u2019t already done so, <a href=\"https:\/\/oerworldmap.org\/user\/register\">register your account<\/a> on OER World Map. You will receive editing rights straight away, and you will be able to add and edit data relating to OER activity. \u00a0Alternatively, it\u2019s possible to contribute on Twitter via the hashtag <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?src=typd&amp;q=%23taggingoer\">#taggingoer<\/a>. \u00a0If you believe some information or tags are missing from the map then you can tweet the relevant information on this hashtag and the project team will pick it up.<\/li>\n<li>We continue to collect data on <a href=\"https:\/\/oerhub.net\/oer\/survey-launched-for-oofat-models\/\">Open, Online, Flexible and Technology-Enhanced<\/a>\u00a0models of educational delivery. \u00a0Please complete\u00a0the survey at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.co.uk\/r\/OOFATOERHUB\">https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.co.uk\/r\/OOFATOERHUB<\/a> if you haven\u2019t already done so.<\/li>\n<li>Tomorrow some members of the OER Hub team will run a training workshop for staff and doctoral students at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/\">The Open University, UK<\/a> on the theme of open research. \u00a0The session will draw on our experiences as researchers with the Hub as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/courses.p2pu.org\/en\/courses\/3230\/open-research-2015\/\">the course we developed for P2Pu<\/a> and our <a href=\"http:\/\/oerhub.net\/collaboration-2\/oer-hub-researcher-toolkit-out-now\/\">researchers toolkit<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>This week sees the (open access) publication of a new edited volume on open education and the difference it is making. \u00a0We contributed a chapter and there are lots of good writers in there. \u00a0It\u2019s on Ubiquity press and available for free online. \u00a0Check it out: \u00a0Jhangiani R. &amp; Biswas-Diener R. DOI: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubiquitypress.com\/site\/books\/10.5334\/bbc\/\">https:\/\/doi.org\/10.5334\/bbc<\/a>. \u00a0Congratulations to all authors and to editors Rajiv and Robert for putting it together.<a class=\"fusion-no-lightbox\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ubiquitypress.com\/site\/books\/10.5334\/bbc\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5855 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/oerhub.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Screen-Shot-2017-03-28-at-13.17.52.png?resize=199%2C300\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>We learned yesterday that we have been awarded funding by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hewlett.org\/\">The Hewlett Foundation<\/a>\u00a0to pilot and research the impact of open textbooks in UK higher education \u2013 and we\u2019re very pleased to be working with our co-grantees, including\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/vivrolfe.com\/about\/\">Vivien Rolfe<\/a>\u00a0(University of the West of England) and <a href=\"http:\/\/wonkhe.com\/\">WonkHE<\/a>. \u00a0We\u2019ll be circulating more information about this next week, including a call to action for those who would like to be involved.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We are currently looking forward to <a href=\"https:\/\/oer17.oerconf.org\/\">OER17<\/a> next week where most of the team will be presenting research papers. \u00a0If you\u2019re attending the conference and would like to meet up just drop us a line. \u00a0Similarly, we will have a presence at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iskme.org\/events\/hewlett-annual-oer-meeting-2017\">meeting of Hewlett grantees<\/a> in Toronto at the end of April and welcome the chance to catch up. \u00a0 In the meantime, happy Open Education Week!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apologies for posting &#8211; those interested, please contact the OER Hub team and last week, info about the conference here: activity in #openeducationwk 2017 As ever, there is a lot happening here at the Hub and Open Education Week 2017 provides a great opportunity to update everyone on what we\u2019ve been up to.
