{"id":4498,"date":"2016-12-21T10:27:47","date_gmt":"2016-12-21T10:27:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cel\/?p=4498"},"modified":"2016-12-21T11:03:48","modified_gmt":"2016-12-21T11:03:48","slug":"report-from-the-social-media-in-he-conference-in-sheffield-on-16-dec-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/2016\/12\/21\/report-from-the-social-media-in-he-conference-in-sheffield-on-16-dec-16\/","title":{"rendered":"Report from the Social Media in HE Conference in Sheffield on 16 Dec 16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On behalf of CEL, I attended a one day conference on <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/socmedhe\/?doing_wp_cron=1482316151.8138830661773681640625\">Social Media in Higher Education<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23SocMedHE16\">#socmedhe16<\/a>) last week.\u00a0 Some 150 delegates attended from institutions mainly across the UK, including someone from the LSE who we had met two days previously on the CEL\/LLS visit there.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/12\/CzvR5woWEAEeb9c.jpeg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4501\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4501\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/12\/CzvR5woWEAEeb9c-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"czvr5woweaeeb9c\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/12\/CzvR5woWEAEeb9c-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/12\/CzvR5woWEAEeb9c-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/12\/CzvR5woWEAEeb9c.jpeg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>This is the first conference I have attended that did not include a keynote presentation.\u00a0 Instead, this was replaced by a key-not, an hour long activity where teams of 4-6 competed to produce a working learning resource.\u00a0 The team I was in used Padlet to build a resource aimed at academic staff to help develop their social media awareness and skills.<\/p>\n<p>The conference featured many presentations and workshops covering a wide range of tools and discussing the issues surrounding social media in HE.<\/p>\n<p>I presented on the multiple choice questionning system, <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/tools-support-tel\/tools-are-advised\/peerwise\">Peerwise<\/a>, with my colleague from Sheffield Hallam University, Dr Lynne Truelove.\u00a0 Our presentation is available here: <a title=\"Empowering learning using multiple choice questions (Peerwise)\" href=\"\/\/www.slideshare.net\/DavidBiggins3\/empowering-learning-using-multiple-choice-questions-peerwise\" target=\"_blank\">Empowering learning using multiple choice questions (Peerwise)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On behalf of CEL, I attended a one day conference on Social Media in Higher Education (#socmedhe16) last week.\u00a0 Some 150 delegates attended from institutions mainly across the UK, including someone from the LSE who we had met two days previously on the CEL\/LLS visit there.
