{"id":4074,"date":"2016-10-06T06:57:49","date_gmt":"2016-10-06T06:57:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cel\/?p=4074"},"modified":"2016-10-06T16:38:21","modified_gmt":"2016-10-06T16:38:21","slug":"what-the-digital-skills-self-assessment-is-telling-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/2016\/10\/06\/what-the-digital-skills-self-assessment-is-telling-us\/","title":{"rendered":"What the digital skills self-assessment is telling us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thank you to everyone who has completed the digital skill self-assessment.\u00a0 To date we have had 337 completed questionnaires.\u00a0 Our goal is that all academic staff will complete the survey but the survey is also open to any member of staff who wants to assess their confidence in the digital arena against the processes, systems and tools that we use at BU.\u00a0 The questionnaire can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/bournemouth.onlinesurveys.ac.uk\/digital-skills\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the findings from the questionnaire.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>1. Confidence in using TEL Tools<\/h4>\n<p>The questionnaire asks about respondents&#8217; level of confidence in using the tools from the TEL Toolkit.\u00a0 The range of responses is:\u00a0 1 = unaware; 2 = aware; 3 = practiced; 4 = competent; 5 = proficient; 6 = expert.\u00a0 The TEL Toolkit holds information on the tools most commonly used at BU for teaching and learning so the information on staff&#8217;s level of confidence helps CEL, Library and Learning Support, Organisational Development etc to know where best to devote resources to provide the most effective support for staff.<\/p>\n<p>This table combines all the 33 TEL Tools into one table and assesses, for all respondents, the levels of confidence.<\/p>\n<table style=\"height: 477px\" staff are unaware of the tools available.\u00a0 This is to be expected and also demonstrates the fact that not every tool will be applicable to each teaching and learning environment.<\/p>\n<p>The that staff report the highest levels of confidence (based on the most frequent responses) in myBU announcements and grade centre, Turnitin, using presentation equipment, Facebook, Skype and YouTube.\u00a0 It is interesting to note that the most frequent answer was never &#8216;practiced&#8217;, reflecting the diversity of TEL usage at BU.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 33 tools in the list that can be used by teaching staff, 26 have a modal rating of aware or unaware.\u00a0 Included in this block are useful tools such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/tools-support-tel\/fully-supported-tools\/panopto\">Panopto<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/tools-support-tel\/partially-supported-tools\/ispring\">iSpring<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/centre-excellence-learning\/tel-toolkit\/tools-support-tel\/fully-supported-tools\/talis-aspire-reading-lists\">reading lists<\/a>.\u00a0 As a result, CEL will work to raise awareness during this semester.<\/p>\n<h4>3.\u00a0 What next?<\/h4>\n<p>We will continue to analyse the data we have received and delve more deeply into the data at Faculty and Department levels to understand what the data is telling us.<\/p>\n<p>We are conscious that the respondents represent only about a third of our teaching staff.\u00a0 In order that we can make informed decisions based on the needs of all staff, we would like to ask again that all academic staff complete the questionnaire as soon as possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thank
