{"id":3743,"date":"2016-07-27T08:59:31","date_gmt":"2016-07-27T08:59:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cel\/?p=3743"},"modified":"2016-07-27T11:21:26","modified_gmt":"2016-07-27T11:21:26","slug":"civic-engagement-a-cultural-revolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/2016\/07\/27\/civic-engagement-a-cultural-revolution\/","title":{"rendered":"Civic engagement: a cultural revolution?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/ameconference2016.org\/\">42<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0Association for Moral Education Annual Conference<\/a> will be hosted by the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Cambridge, USA, December 8 through 11, 2016 on the theme <em>Civic engagement: a cultural revolution?\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/staffprofiles.bournemouth.ac.uk\/display\/mmbah\">Dr Marcellus Mbah<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/centre-excellence-learning\">Centre for Excellence in Learning<\/a> at Bournemouth University has partly been funded by the organisers to present a paper titled\u00a0&#8220;<strong>Institutionalising a university driven service learning model for community development&#8221;.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whilst community based service learning (CBSL)\u00a0is projected as an instrument for community development, Dr Mbah&#8217;s\u00a0paper will argue that this\u00a0requires the fostering of service learning education for informed participation of the community in the framing and firming up of CBSL processes,\u00a0 looking beyond short term planning and execution of CBSL objectives. The community impact of service learning\u00a0can be sustained through a deeper dissemination as well as follow-up of field\u00a0evaluation reports.<\/p>\n<p>Pre\/post conference workshops have also been planned, touching on different themes. These include: Doing and Teaching Educational Ethics through Case Studies;\u00a0The Scout Method in Education and Management, and\u00a0Domain Theory-Based Moral Education (DBME): A Hands-On Workshop for Classroom Teachers and Teacher Educators.
