Universities have an important role to play through research, developing a greener campus, in the community and through the learning we provide.<\/p>\n<p>At BU, we have taken our contribution seriously. We have made great strides in the environmental management of our estates, in line with BU 2018 to \u201censure our environmental credentials are held in high esteem.\u201d We also have some excellent research that focuses on issues of unsustainability and the identification of possible solutions. We have academics building capacity in the community.<\/p>\n<p>BU 2018 also states, that we shall \u201censure that graduates develop a global perspective and understand the need for sustainable development by seeking to embed sustainable development across the curriculum.\u201d It comments on our \u201cholistic approach to SD\u201d and emphasises that we are \u201cinspiring our students and staff to enrich the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CEL challenged faculty staff from across the University to submit case studies illustrating examples of embedding SD into the curriculum, with prizes of a \u00a375 donation to a charity for the winner, and a \u00a325 donation for the runner up per faculty.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winners:<\/strong><br \/>\nFaculty of Science and Technology: Adrian Newton, Chris Shiel, Elena Cantarello and Kathy Hodder<br \/>\nFaculty of Media and Communication: James Fair and Annie East<br \/>\nFaculty of Management: Nicole Ferdinand, Nigel Williams and Liz Gordon<\/p>\n<p><strong>Runners Up:<\/strong><br \/>\nFaculty of Science and Technology: Chris Shiel and Elena Cantarello<br \/>\nFaculty of Management: Sean Beer<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The role of universities in contributing to a sustainable future has been quite clear since Agenda 21 \u2013 our shared prosperity is at risk if we do not find more sustainable ways of living and working.
