{"id":3610,"date":"2016-07-04T10:36:52","date_gmt":"2016-07-04T10:36:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cel\/?p=3610"},"modified":"2016-07-13T12:51:30","modified_gmt":"2016-07-13T12:51:30","slug":"organisational-learning-and-widening-participation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/2016\/07\/04\/organisational-learning-and-widening-participation\/","title":{"rendered":"Organisational Learning and Widening Participation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/07\/CEL-Teaching-Ex-Copy.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3670\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3670\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/07\/CEL-Teaching-Ex-Copy-300x167.jpg\" alt=\"CEL Teaching Ex - Copy\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/07\/CEL-Teaching-Ex-Copy-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/07\/CEL-Teaching-Ex-Copy-768x428.jpg 768w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/07\/CEL-Teaching-Ex-Copy.jpg 814w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The core ethos of BU&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.bournemouth.ac.uk\/about\/centre-excellence-learning\/our-research\/fair-access\/bu-fair-access-research-project\" target=\"_blank\">Fair Access Research<\/a> programme is that by <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bournemouth.ac.uk\/research\/2016\/02\/26\/fair-access-research-learning-together\/\" target=\"_blank\">working and learning together for widening participation <\/a>we , as an institution and a sector, can better support marginalised people to access and succeed in higher education.<\/p>\n<p>We want to find out more about how widening participation is\u00a0being learnt in the different institutions and organisations that make up the higher education sector.\u00a0By this we mean\u00a0how the insights, knowledge, theories, data, expertise and experiences of widening participation\u00a0are being learnt individually and collectively within organisations.<\/p>\n<p>Thinking about widening participation as a process of organisational learning touches upon issues of\u00a0knowledge retention, professional recognition and development, as well as\u00a0infrastructures\u00a0for research development and dissemination, all of which is so vital for the sector to transform itself into more equitable places.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/07\/organisational-learning.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3623\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3623 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/07\/organisational-learning-300x211.png\" alt=\"organisational learning\" width=\"421\" height=\"297\" srcset=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/07\/organisational-learning-300x211.png 300w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/07\/organisational-learning-768x541.png 768w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/07\/organisational-learning-1024x721.png 1024w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2016\/07\/organisational-learning.png 1405w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 421px) 100vw, 421px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">On behalf of BU&#8217;s\u00a0Fair Access Research, <a href=\"http:\/\/staffprofiles.bournemouth.ac.uk\/display\/mhutchings\" target=\"_blank\">Maggie Hutchings<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/staffprofiles.bournemouth.ac.uk\/display\/awardrop\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Wardrop\u00a0<\/a>have designed a <a href=\"https:\/\/bournemouth.onlinesurveys.ac.uk\/widening_participation_learning\" target=\"_blank\">survey <\/a>for the sector to find out more about\u00a0how widening participation is learnt, retained and shared within and across different organisations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">This study follows the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ingentaconnect.com\/content\/openu\/jwpll\/2016\/00000018\/00000002\/art00005\" target=\"_blank\">publication <\/a>of a paper that called for a far more embedded approach to research in institution&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offa.org.uk\/access-agreements\/\" target=\"_blank\">access agreements<\/a>. We argue that research undertaken as part of the access agreement process can provide much needed evidence of impact and situate activity within an institution-wide context.
