{"id":3464,"date":"2016-06-07T16:21:43","date_gmt":"2016-06-07T16:21:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cel\/?p=3464"},"modified":"2016-06-07T16:21:43","modified_gmt":"2016-06-07T16:21:43","slug":"9th-conference-of-the-european-association-for-teaching-academic-writing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/2016\/06\/07\/9th-conference-of-the-european-association-for-teaching-academic-writing\/","title":{"rendered":"9TH CONFERENCE OF THE EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION FOR TEACHING ACADEMIC WRITING"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many apologies for cross posting but this may be of interest to some colleagues:<\/p>\n<p><strong>The 9<sup>th<\/sup> Biennial EATAW conference will hold from\u00a019-21 June 2017<\/strong> <strong>@\u00a0Royal Holloway, University of London, United Kingdom<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Conference theme: Academic Writing Now: Policy, pedagogy and practice<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><u>NOW OPEN:<\/u><\/strong><strong> CALL FOR PROPOSALS <\/strong>(further information available<strong> <u><a href=\"http:\/\/eataw2017.org\/index.php\/call-for-contributions\/\">here<\/a><\/u><\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The EATAW 2017 conference aims to articulate a response to the shifting realities of higher education using the sub-themes of policy, pedagogy and practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Policy<\/strong> &#8211; whether governmental, institutional or departmental \u2013 has the potential to impact the teaching of academic writing profoundly, raising questions such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Where does writing development sit in universities?<\/li>\n<li>How do departments effectively equip teachers with different academic backgrounds to teach writing?<\/li>\n<li>At what stage should academic writing be taught?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Pedagogy<\/strong> &#8211; drawing from a wide range of pedagogical traditions, this sub-theme aims to reflect on how these are responding to the changing landscapes in higher education to address questions such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Which pedagogic approaches are being used in different teaching contexts?<\/li>\n<li>How do we measure \u2018good\u2019 writing in different contexts?<\/li>\n<li>Is there a place for both generic and discipline-specific writing development?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Practice<\/strong> &#8211; a changing academic context has practical impacts on both staff and students provoking questions about how we academic writing teachers should respond to these impacts, leading to questions such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is student writing changing?<\/li>\n<li>When are digital technologies both used and avoided by students and teachers of academic writing?<\/li>\n<li>What physical and mental space do students need for effective academic writing?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The deadline for submission of proposals is <strong>8 January 2017 (23.59 GMT).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The conference website can be reached on <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/eataw2017.org\/\">eataw2017.org<\/a><\/strong>.
