{"id":3379,"date":"2016-05-25T14:57:45","date_gmt":"2016-05-25T14:57:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cel\/?p=3379"},"modified":"2016-05-25T14:57:45","modified_gmt":"2016-05-25T14:57:45","slug":"ashley-spriggs-wins-the-how-do-you-use-yours-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/2016\/05\/25\/ashley-spriggs-wins-the-how-do-you-use-yours-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Ashley Spriggs wins the &#8216;How do you use yours?&#8217; competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to Ashley Spriggs, who won an iPad for her innovative use of the presentation software Prezi.<\/p>\n<p>Ashley was awarded the prize by BU\u2019s Vice-Chancellor John Vinney for her winning entry in a competition led by the team behind the TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning) Toolkit \u2013 BU\u2019s online self-help guide to technology in teaching. The competition asked entrants \u2018How do you use yours?\u2019, in reference to the range of approaches and software showcased on the site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe content of the lecture I was giving was actually quite dry\u201d explained Ashley, Associate Lecturer in Adult Nursing in the Faculty of Health &amp; Social Sciences. \u201cI wanted to produce a Prezi presentation but I was too embarrassed to ask people how to do it\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Ashley found using the TEL Toolkit enabled her to get to grips with this new tech. \u201cThe TEL Toolkit is a safe place to go in, have a look at stuff and then try it out. And if it doesn\u2019t work well, no one needs to know about it!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The competition\u2019s 12 winning runners-up represented all faculties and colleagues from professional services. Vice-Chancellor John Vinney congratulated the winners and highlighted the competition as one way of shining \u201ca spotlight on talent\u201d and \u201ccreating an environment and culture where people feel confident enough to innovate, try things out, fail, succeed and innovate again\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, there may well be some unintended consequences of Ashley\u2019s prize-winning when she returns home. \u201cAre my kids going to be fighting over the iPad? Yeah they will!\u201d she laughed.<\/p>\n<p>Jonny Branney from the Faculty of Health &amp; Social Sciences bagged second place with Anne Davey from Academic Services in third.
