The focus of the 2016 call will be on the dynamic of \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 accountability, asking questions about how this dynamic interacts with contextual factors and elements of the education system to enable or inhibit the raising of learning outcomes for all. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Applications will be invited for projects with a full economic cost (fEC) value of between \u00a3200,000 and \u00a3700,000. The duration of projects should range from a minimum of one year up to a \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 maximum of four years. The earliest expected start date for grants funded through this call is July 2017. More information\u00a0can be accessed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esrc.ac.uk\/files\/funding\/funding-opportunities\/raising-learning-outcomes-precall-announcement-2016\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Nuffield Foundation<\/strong> grants for research and innovation: Nuffield foundation\u00a0have seven programmes that fund research and innovation in areas of social policy and education. These are all open to applications. The programmes include: Children and Families, Early Years Education and Childcare, Economic Advantage and Disadvantage and Education. Up to \u00a3350,000 can be awarded. Deadline is 01 October 2016. More information can be accessed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nuffieldfoundation.org\/grants-research-and-innovation-projects\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. The Society for Research into Higher Education Member Awards<\/strong>: These support new research into higher education that is submitted under three overarching themes of higher education policy, higher education and society, and higher education practice.\u00a0Forecasted deadline is 01 September 2016. More information can be accessed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.srhe.ac.uk\/research\/annual_research_awards.asp\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0<strong>Society for Educational Studies Small Grant Awards<\/strong>: These aim to stimulate research in education, particularly by those who are starting their research careers and are no more than five years postdoctoral. Applicants must be affiliated with a British university, college or school, and be or become members of the society. Up to four grants worth up to \u00a310,000 for one year are available. Deadline: 15 September 2016. More information can be accessed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soc-for-ed-studies.org.uk\/grants\/#smallgrants\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. The Spencer Foundation<\/strong> invites proposals for its new civics small grant programme. This aims to support research that asks critical questions about how education can more effectively contribute to the civic development of young people. The foundation has a particular interest in studies that attend to the following: powerful motivations and psychological influences; enabling learning experiences and environments; societal or group norms, political processes or events, historical and cultural trends and other contextual influences. Grants are directed to institutions research groups etc. Award can be up to\u00a0$50,000.\u00a0Upcoming\u00a0deadlines are: August 1, 2016, and November 1, 2016. More information can be accessed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spencer.org\/the-new-civics-guidelines\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Newton Institutional Links<\/strong>. This grant\u00a0aims to build UK-partner country research and innovation collaborations centred on shared research and innovation challenges which have direct relevance to social welfare and economic development. Up to \u00a3300,000 can be applied for and deadline is 27 June, 2016. ESRC Research Grants (open call):<\/strong> There is considerable flexibility when it comes to subject area. As long as you always make sure that your suggested topic falls within ESRC&#8217;s remit, you are free to concentrate on any research area. You can submit applications to the scheme at any time &#8211; there are no fixed closing dates. Awards rang from \u00a3350,000 to \u00a31 million (100 per cent full Economic Cost (fEC) and this can be made to eligible institutions to enable individuals or research teams to undertake anything from a standard research project through to a large- scale \u00a0survey and other infrastructure or methodological development.
