The groups were\u00a0part of a pilot study exploring perceptions of the student experience and widening participation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bera.ac.uk\/\">BERA<\/a>\u00a0have published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bera.ac.uk\/blog\/not-being-seen-as-students\">blog<\/a>\u00a0by Dr Alex Wardrop, which touches on some of the themes addressed in her recent CEL <a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/2015\/09\/30\/life-dont-talk-to-me-about-life\/\">post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing on findings from the focus groups, Alex reflects on how students are seen, or rather,\u00a0<em>not\u00a0<\/em>seen.<\/p>\n<p>She reflects on how assumptions and perceptions of what it means to be a student\u00a0often exclude mature students and\u00a0those studying part-time from the social side of student life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During the summer, the\u00a0Fair Access Research\u00a0project ran focus groups with final year\u00a0HSS\u00a0and Sci Tech students.
