{"id":2065,"date":"2015-09-30T14:21:34","date_gmt":"2015-09-30T14:21:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cel\/?p=2065"},"modified":"2016-01-19T12:14:06","modified_gmt":"2016-01-19T12:14:06","slug":"tel-mentimeter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/2015\/09\/30\/tel-mentimeter\/","title":{"rendered":"TEL Toolkit: Mentimeter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been looking for an online tool to enable students equipped with a smartphone to provide feedback during lectures.\u00a0 As many students have a device that can connect to the internet, using such a tool can help to improve engagement and can provide useful feedback and information.<\/p>\n<p>One such tool is called Mentimeter (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentimeter.com\/\">www.mentimeter.com<\/a>).\u00a0 This company offers a free version that allows you to ask a maximum of two questions in a single event and a subscription model that has no limitations and costs around \u00a33.50 per month for a basic academic licence.<\/p>\n<p>I will be using Mentimeter in my first lecture tomorrow to gain feedback on the clarity of the unit assessments.\u00a0 It is a good opportunity to understand if there is any confusion about the assignments, hand in date, hand in method etc.<\/p>\n<p>My two questions are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0How clear are the assessments for the unit?\u00a0 The answer uses a 5 point Likert scale.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Do you have any queries about the unit?\u00a0 This allows students to post a 140 character comment anonymously.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>As a tutor, I can open the results page, view the information in real time and share this with the class.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a sample of a poll.<a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2015\/09\/Screen-Shot-2015-09-30-at-15.17.06.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2066\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2015\/09\/Screen-Shot-2015-09-30-at-15.17.06-300x208.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2015-09-30 at 15.17.06\" width=\"300\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2015\/09\/Screen-Shot-2015-09-30-at-15.17.06-300x208.png 300w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/flie\/files\/2015\/09\/Screen-Shot-2015-09-30-at-15.17.06.png 472w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Each poll that is created has a 6 digit code to limit access.\u00a0 To use the tool, students need to navigate to the Mentimeter page and then enter the code for a question set that I have made available.<\/p>\n<p>It looks very easy to use.\u00a0 In addition to multiple choice answers and comments, other question types include scales, prioritisation (by distributing 100 points across the options) and rating an item from two perspectives to generate a scatter plot.<\/p>\n<p>I will report back tomorrow on the success of the trial in my unit.<\/p>\n<p>I have created a CEL trial that you can use to see the end user&#8217;s view of Mentimeter.\u00a0 One question has been created.\u00a0 Please navigate to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.govote.at\">www.govote.at<\/a> <\/strong> <span class=\"subtle\">and use the code<\/span> <strong>10 81 26<\/strong>.\u00a0 I will post these results too.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have been looking for an online tool to enable students equipped with a smartphone to provide feedback during lectures.\u00a0 As many students have a device that can connect to the internet, using such a tool can help to improve engagement and can provide useful feedback and information.
