But it\u2019s possible that things we do unconsciously in teaching and supervision or even in appointing new colleagues, can accumulate to create an unfair environment and risk students not getting the grade you think they are capable of or you not recruiting the best person for the job. This short workshop is suitable for all members of staff including ECRs and Professional Services and is guaranteed to provide lightbulb moments for everyone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Facilitator\/Speaker Background:<\/strong>\u00a0Averil\u00a0MacDonald\u00a0is emeritus Professor at Reading where, before retirement, she led their Athena SWAN initiative. She was part of setting up the original Athena SWAN scheme in the noughties, sat on the Athena SWAN Advisory Panel and judged and chaired numerous panels. In 2012\u00a0Averil MacDonald proposed and led the nationwide pilot that established the best way to integrate ASSH disciplines into the STEM based Athena SWAN. She has, since retirement, advised numerous departments from all corners of the UK on Athena SWAN submission (including successful applications from Bournemouth).
